So, I have had my new (used) 2006 Prius for about two weeks now and I have noticed that the backlighting for the buttons on the steering wheel is not working. This is my first Prius so any help would be great. Thanks!
Backlighting of buttons on steering wheel is dim . . . | PriusChat I personally wouldn't worry about it. After a few more weeks of driving the car, you'll likely have all the buttons (at least the ones you use) memorized.
If indeed they are really not lit, then you would need to replace the "clockspring" in the steering wheel, which is the flexible strip carrying the current. It's a bit of a job but doable for DIY types. Perhaps not worth it if just that wire is broken.
The LED back lights can be replaced with brighter LED's, but it is a fine soldering job to do this. John (Britprius)
