I went from a 2012 Prius to a 2014 PIP recently. My gas gauge is way off compared to the 2012...I had 2 miles to fill up and could only put 8 gallons in it. Anyone else have this problem ?
We are in a small town, never more than 5 miles from home. I ran the gas gauge down to "empty" and kept the EV battery charged for a few weeks. We went 50 HV miles after that, and took 9.5 gallons to fill. My guess is the warning came on with 100 HV miles to go.
It has a smaller tank, so it should take less fuel. Most Liftback users get about 9.5 gallons on a standard refill, with the remainder of the claimed capacity as the normal safety margin. Subtract the 1.3 gallon smaller capacity of your tank, and that leaves 8.2 gallons as the equivalent refill.
mine always takes 8 gallons when the last pip beeps and flashes and 0 dte. you have a 2 gallon cushion, similar to all cars. surprised you didn't notice this on your '12.
It worked exactly as the design intended. 8 gallons is what the plug-in is calibrated for, which is a different threshold from your 2012. I've consistently seen that 8-gallon mark triggering the refuel notice. Fortunately, that amount of gas takes quite a bit longer to consume than it did with my 2010.
