Corroded AC wiring harness 2010 - anyone heard of this?

    They said compressor is still on the vehicle, so might cost extra for it to be removed.

    Thanks to Prius-Alpha alerting us about corrosion of the compressor control circuit wire connector, I was prompted to neutralize the corrosion that you see in the bottom picture of post #25 above, paint the base of the connector and apply Eck ("Electrolysis, Corrosion, Kontrol") dielectric coating to the connection. Below is a picture of the renewed connector.

    The Loctite Extend Rust Neutralizer was applied first, followed by RUST-OLEM paint (black and white mixed to make gray), and then the Eck product inside the connection. I found the Eck product online at:

    When I called the company to ask whether the Eck product would work for the AC compressor connector, they provided me with a free sample and the technical data for the product. It looks impressive and should work a lot better than ordinary dielectric grease.

    Thanks for the suggestions and those are good questions. I'll look into some of those.

    The repair is a done deal. Doing it myself was not an option for a number of reasons.

    Update: I brought the old compressor home with me. It turns out I was wrong about those two fasteners on the plate the receptacle is mounted on. They are in fact small bolts with funky heads. I was able to bear down on them with a pair of channel locks and break them free. Still doesn't help for a repair though because there isn't enough slack on whatever the plug is connected to on the inside to pull it up more than about a quarter inch. The black plastic of the plug extends through the plate further inside the housing and has an o-ring around it. It doesn't come out far enough to see wires. You would have to remove the larger plate on that side of the compressor to get access to the connection inside. The three bolts that hold that plate on are recessed so one of those fancy sockets is required to get them out.

    All the wires went in from the outside, and all the living slack pulled back on the in side: waste not want not. :ROFLMAO:

    I bet the black connector is just that. A connector that can be disconnected like the outside. It is most likely just a place to transition from the outside world to the sealed inside world.

    Do you have the make and model of the compressor?

    There's a good description in post #60 above in this thread on page 3. It's easy to do. Just three bolts to remove to get the air intake out of the way.

    I saw this thread about year ago and this started haunting me...
    Today i squeezed myself next to that AC 12V connector and lubed it well with contact cleaner what was quite oily stuff. I hope it protects nicely untill next summer when i dive there again and do same thing again. Now i can sleep better ;)

    HFC134a is just the refrigerant it's designed to be filled with.

    The model might be an ES18. That's what's in my mind, but I'm not looking at one right now. They have different sizes; the 18 refers to the displacement (in cm³? I'm not positive).

    But I'm pretty sure you could get a basic ES18 in either belt-drive or electric flavors. It's probably best to go by the Toyota ten-digit part number.
