Date Ordered: 11-MAR-2006
Dealer Ordered From (Incl. City/State): Central FL Toyota (Kissimmee, FL)
Timeframe given for delivery: 8-12 weeks
Color: Barcelona Red
Option Package: #8
Your # on Dealer's Waiting List: ???

When I ordered it, they told me they'd order it from Japan.

Today when I inquired about how it's going, they backpedaled and said they can only "preference" for cars manufactured in another country.

And unfortunately for me, there were not any Red package #8's that they could go after on this last allocation...

Next allocation is April 5th. I have to wait until then to see if there is even one for them to TRY to get.

GRRRR!

I figure if they don't find it soon, I will miss out on the tax credit. Most of the early estimates in the newspaper articles I read said that the credit would run out by June 2006 on the Prius...

I feel your pain!!!! I ordered a Barcelona Red #4 on February 11th from MotorCars Toyota in Cleveland and was just informed today that my order did not show up on their list. Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper!

I'm fine with the wait, but now it is starting to feel to me like they missed the first allocation deadline for my car and ordered in March instead of February.

Guess I will begin to shop around at some other local dealers. I was told that my order has been bucked up to the owner of the dealership, but that could all just be a smokescreen for "hey we forgot to order yours". We'll see if I hear anything in the next few days. If not, I have other dealer options for sure.

Can't wait till Toyota really starts cranking these things out! Hopefully they have their act together for the Camry.

Search the site for info on the tax credit. It's a phase out so until Toyo hits 60K hybrids it's still good for 2 more quarters. I have an '05 so I haven't read into it too deeply but it's probabaly better than you think.

IMO, Barcelona Red is a (pardon the pun) HOT color. If it had been available last year I might not have been so ready to take the Super White.

I am in SE Toyota (North Carolina) and put a deposit for a #8 blue or red the first week of Dec. 05. The red was my first choice, and is really a fabulous red, you will really love it. Well, they weren't getting any #8s back then, needing the car as I sold my Accord, and I changed to "any color exterior or interior) so they could get the first available. They being said, my Classic Silver came just a week ago for a 3.5 month wait.

you'll love the red, but I expect you'll wait at least a couple of months in the best case scenario.

I'm actually glad I got the silver. I'm 51, goes good with my look.

I would not mind having a #8 just as long as I would not have to pay more $$$ for it :D

I was absolutely filled with dumb luck. I got mine on January 2, 2006 and yes it is the Barcelona Red #8. I have had nothing but compliments on it. Just yesterday at a stop sign a gal rolled down her window just to tell me "hey, nice car". At the next stop sign I rolled down mine and said "the last 5 minute segment got 65 mpg" She said "oh shush, I don't want to hear it". She both smiled. Another day in the life of the Prius.

As the World Turns.

Cheers

Somehow I avoided Spanish Club in high school only to find myself now a member! Also eagerly waiting for a Barcelona #8 delivery in Honolulu mid-April.

A real #8 in Florida? Very rare! Earlier this year #8s were not available in the SE. The shady dealers would say they were ordering a #8 and then deliver a #7 with port installed learther. The more honest dealers would tell us they were not available. You may want to confirm it's a real #8. We got tired of the game and purchased a real #8 from the Chicago region without delay, MSRP, no admin fees, and no Toyoguard.

Real Package 8 in Florida

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(brasche @ Apr 2 2006, 11:07 AM) </div>
In January the SE Region told me thet they would special order a Package 8 for me if I wanted to wait 120 days more than the 120 days I already waited with the dealer. Since my local dealer realized he was paying more for Package 7 cars with port installed leather, than he would be paying for real Package 8 cars, they started special ordering Package 8 cars; I guess other SE dealers must have caught on too!

I got lucky; I took a dark gray port installed leather Package 7 in January, my dealer installed the leather center and side arm rests, the triangle shaped leather inserts between the rear door and the rear back cushion, plus they installed the leather steering wheel the SE Region supplied (after I complained); all at no charge to get me to a full Package 8. Maybe the SE Region port leather upgrade for Package 7 scam is over.

Yes, a $600 port installed option that SE dealers will tell you not optional. I called the regional SE distributer and learned it was in no way a mandatory option .

It consists of etching the VIN number on the windows (a cheap kit at your local auto parts store), spraying on some sound deadening on the front fenders (only), and applying fabric guard to the seats. Worth far less than the price.

Save your $$$ and put it towards 3M protective film.

There's a Red #8 available just 45 miles outside of Chicago. Try www.vehix.com, new cars, view entire selection. Best Wishes, Brian White/Tan #8

YAY!

The dealer just called me and told me my car will be here on April 23, plus or minus 2 days!!!

It is definitely a package 8. I have made such a fuss over that specific point, that I am confident about that! :)

I am quite aware of the SE region's "package 7 + port leather" swaparoo scam. They do it because they make more on the port installed leather than they do on the difference between pkg 7 and pkg 8.

And because ALL the SE dealers were doing it, it worked, as we FL folks had to go wide & far to get the pkg 8. Most folks just gave up and took 7+leather. I can't blame them, but I just wasn't willing to settle this time.

It's nice to see that some dealers are pulling in the pkg 8's here in FL finally!

Anyways... I'm just THRILLED to hear this news today! I'll keep you all posted as it gets closer!

Thanks for keeping me company while I wait!!! :D

Here's a cool auto shipping website link. Toyota ships its products using their service. Click on "Sailing Schedules" top right.

After reading the wait time some of you had to endure, I guess I was really lucky. I was looking at the Camry, when I noticed that there were 3 Prius' on the lot (2 black and 1 Barcelona Red) Just to say I drove one, my husband and I took a black one on a test drive. I fell in love with it (we were looking at the Ford 500--no comparison to the Prius!!!). This was a Saturday and we wanted to talk to a couple at church that had one, so didn't buy that day. We wanted the Barcelona red, but the dealer said he couldn't guarantee that it would be there on Monday. After talkling to our friends--who were on their second Prius and bought one for their daughter--I called the dealership first thing Monday morning and it was still there (they sold one of the black ones while we were there Saturday). Needless to say, I am driving my Barcelona Red Prius all over Tulsa, Oklahoma. I have had so many compliments on the car and the color. My husband works for American Airlines and a guy he works with likes the car but not the color--he said it is OU (Oklahoma University) red. I told him it is my US Marine Corps RED (my son is in the MC in Iraq and he can hardly wait to get home to drive it). This in an awesome car. Coming from a person that was alway a "loyal" Ford owner (we traded in a 1995 Crown Victoria), I think I am now a die hard Prius owner.
