I knew I was running it close, current tank was at 425 miles and I had been running AC a lot. Gas engine starts to sputter for the next 500 yards. All warning lights come on but car keeps moving. I hit the pedal hard to engage gas engine, car accelerates but gas engine is not to be heard. Luckily, gas is about 2 miles away. All of that is steadily down hill, and only two lights. It drives fine, coasts most of the way, but I could have driven it harder I think. Added gas, turned key, starts fine, no lights, all good. I don't plan to ever do this again but I'm happy to say my 2003 handled it like a champ
Good, sin no more! Seriously, I can see no reason to flirt with an empty tank. Just pick a level, anywhere under half full, or one quarter full: if it's below that point and you're passing a decent gas station, fill it up. Not so hard, lol.
No problem, I plan to do it in about 3-4 weeks as part of another driving stunt. The other 30-40 times were part of gasoline studies. Bob Wilson
