Has anyone heard anything new about the XM radio from Toyota for the 2006 Prius? I thought I heard that it would be available in March.
I think it will now be available in April instead, according to Toyota's website. Link "XM Satellite radio allows you to listen to what you want when you want. Featuring radio controls integrated into the vehicle audio head unit. XM Satellite Radio offers access to a nationwide net-work of over a 150 digital channels of music, news, sports, weather and traffic. 67 music channels are 100% commercial-free. Available April 2006. Subscription required at additional cost. See your local dealer or visit XM at www.xmradio.com for additional information."
I did come across this $395, fully integrated kit for the 2006: http://www.factoryinteractive.com/PriusXM/ Other than whats on the page, thats all I know about this place...
That same kit is available for $250 from MetroTPN.com. For the price of $395 at Factory Interactive you either have to be in North New Jersey for the install, or arrange to get your car to them. I purchased my kit thru MetroTPN.com and had a local Toyota audio/alarm guy install it for another $200 rather than deal with installing it myself. Here's the link. My antennae looks just like the one in the pic from the link you posted, located in the exact same spot too.
For $300 you can get a Vais Tech SLX. This will need a Terk XMDirect that lists for $50 with a $30 mail-in rebate. Often you can do much better on the XMDirect. This doesn't limit the display to 10 characters and includes an Aux input for an iPod or other device.
