I've had my 2014 Prius II for about a month now and am really happy with the car. I do however have a question. Every time I go the garage and open the driver's door to get in the car, I hear a servo-like noise under the hood lasting for a few seconds. probably 5-6. Can anyone tell me what may be causing that? Thanks, Ken
Yes, the Prius has a hydraulic brake booster and it looses pressure in just a few hours of down time. It pressures up when the -drivers- door is opened, as the car gets ready for you to drive. It doesn't do that when the passenger or rear doors including the hatch are opened. Some cars hold the pressure longer, some shorter. Pearl held it overnight, Pearl S not so much. A few hours and it runs the pump when the drivers door is opened.
I was idly wondering the other day, if I snuck in the passenger side, climbed over the buttress (THAT'S why it's there) and powered up the car, would the brakes be messed up? Xliderider's ruined my fun.
Also realize your car will make a buzzing noise about 8-10 hours after driving it too. Something to do with the fuel evaporative system.
You will find an explanation in the owners manual, if you have the patience to hunt it down. In fact, I will say it again. And I "paraphrase". -Any sound the Prius makes at any time is normal.- Which is what you come away with after -fully- reading the manual.
