Hybrid Battery- Help!

    Hi friends! I want to thank each of you for your responses! This has been such a stressful situation, but I feel like there have been some really great suggestions. I will find out the codes and post them, and I will definitely check the 12 volt battery before doing anything. I put 20,000 miles on it the first year because I commute to work, which is why I got the Prius. If I decide to replace the battery, which is what I am leaning towards, I will check into some of the places mentioned and shop around before buying. I can't really afford to lose it all, nor can I really afford the repair, though that is more manageable. Again, thank you for you input. I have never been so grateful to perfect strangers. I will keep you updated as to how things go.

    12 volt battery can be a big culprit. Another thing. I've learned to leave the EV button alone. Only occasionally I'll use the EV button do bring the SOC down to a minimum, but I then drive gently.The computers seem to do a gpod job of managing the traction battery.

    Did any of the gen 2 cars have the EV mode? I was thinking that came around on the 3rd gen.

    Not in North America, no. There was an EV button in some other markets in the Gen 2.

    Hi carconfused,
    I recently went through a hybrid battery replacement scenario on my 2005 Prius (167K miles) and a got a solution for $1200. You can read my posting in the thread "Gen II Prius Battery Solution? (140,000)". Had a similar hard decision - sell or repair, although your situation is harder. Good luck and hope you can find a viable cost-effective resolution.

    I hate to say this, but
    dealers are not in business to offer affordable services to out of warranty vehicles.
    Once you know for sure if your 12v needs maintenance or replacing,
    If you're at all mechanically inclined I'd suggest you get as much diagnostic data from the cars computers as
    you can. Even if you have to search high and low or learn how to use the ODBII diagnostic software yourself.

    EEEK, I need help. I had a flat tire yesterday. This tire has been gotten the devil of me, it has always lost air slowly, then I put just a little bit of air in, and the light goes out. Well, yesterday, the tire went totally flat. So, It's time to buy two front tires. So, anyway, I got the donut out and exchanged the tires. The car immediately said Check Hybrid System. So I spent last night in the book. I could see no way to set the hybrid system, let alone check it. Then I figured out there were actually two systems, one is the traction system, which is to the rear of the car. So, I figured I hit something whilst getting the tires changed. Anyway, I kept reading and it keeps telling me to do stuff, but not how to do anything. I did figure out that I needed to the air in the donut to required 60PSI (I mean, really???). I figured that was my problem (under inflation/bad traction) UGGGGGGGG. Any way, did not do the trick. I moved the plastic thingy to the left and to the right, nada. Any way I need to reset this stupid thing, I really need to get in my car and drive.

    ^ With the Check Hybrid System warning, you need to get in your car and drive, to the dealership.

    Regarding the flat, it may be repairable, a nail/screw lodged in the tread.

    You might have loosened/disturbed something in the back hatch area when you went to get the donut, did you disconnect something by mistake?

    Also you should check the oil level in your car, make sure it's full.

    You should really start a new thread on this matter, this thread is regarding a different issue.

    How does the car drive? Are there any drivability issues? If there weren't, I would disconnect the 12V battery for a short period and see if the fault returns. Who knows what could have happened, it could just be a glitch. If the fault returns consistently, then I would worry about (assuming there are no drivability issues of course).

    you can get the codes pulled at auto zone or the dealer. maybe other car parts stores as well. did you put the donut on the front? when you have the new tyres installed, pull the negative 12 volt battery cable for a minute for a reset.
