Just a simple question here: Is there supposed to be a back-light for the dash light dimmer roller/switch? I ask because I rarely find reason to drive at night, but last night I was trying to adjust the dash light brightness while driving, and had a hell of a time finding the dimmer roller, even though I knew approximately where it was (in the cluster of switches). I was annoyed that there was no back-light to help me find it, and it seemed pretty counter-intuitive, so now I'm wondering if the back-light is simply defective, or if it exists at all....
No there isn't...and Yes, I agree there should be. Toyota got a bit lazy/cheap with that switch. On mine? I've complained because there isn't much gradation when I do use it. It seems to go from No light, Too Dim to be Useful-to "On" with very little room for any subtle brightness adjustment. One of the "little" things I think Toyota could of done better.
There's a lotta lights like that, require memory and braille method. The lock/unlock button for example. It's got one little dot of light, for lock. Or is it unlock? I put that dimmer control just below the top. Run it up to the top, when it clicks, then back it down, just to the other side of the indent. Seems to work for most cases.
i hate when i pull in at night and hit the park button, the button lites go off, then instead of hitting the fan off button, i hit the auto button and the hvac explodes.
I agree with the earlier post about the lack of control, seems like it is on or off with little variation allowed
