I think I'm getting out of the prius c game.....

    If I were about to move to Hawaii, I believe I'd keep the trial-size Prius and sell it there.
    Gas was about $4.25 the last time I checked (a little cheaper if you have the right kind of ID card) and a twice-wrecked Prius is worth a little bit more there than it will be in a state where the the leading industries involve hunting, fishing and taxidermy. Insurance prices might be different in HI as well.....so you'll want to get quotes for that and tags.

    Of course if you sell the C in Hawaii you'll have to replace it with something but considering the fact that your driving is going to drop even more than it is now you may want to consider keeping and driving the C-model and sell it before you leave the islands.
    Salt air, UV damage, drivers that are even crazier than Cajuns, and higher everything prices will make your C feel even cheaper than it does now. ;)

    If you keep wrinkling body panels at the rate of twice a year, I wouldn't buy a new ANYTHING until you get some more experience behind the wheel.

    Of course, I understand that it would be more fun to buy a new car and cart it over there, but I'm thinking that this is one of those times in life where smart and fun might not be the same thing.

    I'm keeping the car, after test driving and counting the money....I'm riding til' the wheels fall off. Then I'll replace them

    It feels cheap because it is a rigged-up Yaris that Toyota slapped together when they felt threatened by Ford after Ford made an announcement they were coming out with a sub-compact hybrid for under $20k. Toyota had nothing in the works to compete with that concept so they turned a Yaris in to a hybrid with a smaller gas engine, smaller electric motor and smaller high-voltage battery pack than the regular Prius. I read an article that stated with the first model year of the Prius C the car rarely ever used any of the hybrid technology, it almost never switched on the electric motor.

    I hope Toyota has made improvements to the "C" model since the first year. Otherwise it is unjust they are selling this vehicle with the "Prius" name badge because I think most people don't realize they are not buying a real Prius. Toyota should have taken a better approach than this.

    Was the magic carburetor used to improve the fuel economy ? Your outlandish claim DOES have to explain one rather unexpected (to you) fact: the Prius 'c' gets much better fuel economy than a regular Yaris.

    That said, we all know that the hybrid drivetrain gets more of a work-out in certain driving situations. Put a hybrid on a flat highway and set the cruise control at 65 mph. The car will act much like a non-hybrid. That is not a conspiracy though, it is expected behavior of the car.

    I experienced this just this past day in fact. I took my wife's Honda Fit to work. The return trip of 92 miles was made with a fuel economy of 52.7 MPG, just a few MPG lower than what I get when I drive my Prius v(agon). Huh. So does this mean the hybrid is a sham ? Not at all, it just means that if the Honda Fit is driven carefully, in a prescribed manner, fuel economy approaching hybrids is seen. Overall of course, the Fit lifetime MPG is ~ 37 MPG, way below our Prius.

    Are you being facetious when you mention a "magic carburetor"?

    I learned of the Prius C deficiencies from several industry articles. The articles are much harder to find now, 2 years later, but you can find two of them with these search arguments:
    Google this: "caranddriver 2012 toyota prius c first drive reviews".
    Google this: cars reviewed "2012-toyota-prius-c-hybrid-hatchback-review"

    I see you live in SW Colorado and drive the "V" model (not the "C" model.) I would expect you have a pretty satisfying experience in the "V", one that you might not have in a "C" model, as the "V" is a true from-the-ground-up Prius.

    My sister chose a Honda Fit over a Prius C two years ago and it was probably the right decision.

    My 2005 package 6, gen 2 Prius does not have a "EV" mode option.
    However I have tried to do "hyper miling" and it is too much of a pain to bother with. The car still averages 44 MPG with regular driving habits so I don't bother with making extra efforts.
    My only complaint is high humidity is terrible on the electronics - the high-voltage battery (hv batt) drains quicker and takes longer to recharge. I guess that is just physics and there probably isn't much I can do about it.
    If the A/C wasn't powered by the hv batt, but instead by the 12-volt aux, then I would probably get better performance on hot, humid summer days and rainy days.

    OK, joking aside: The Fit is a fine car that my wife and I like a lot. It is not a Prius though, 'c' or otherwise.

    Very true, but I wanted to lend my post an air of credibility.

    I'm still waiting for you to explain how the fake Prius 'c' gets regular Prius fuel economy by EPA testing and overall in Fuelly.com owner reports.
