Has anyone replaced their Gen 1 battery with a complete rebuilt Gen 2 battery pack? If so, have you had any problems since & how long has it been?
They are not compatible. A Gen1 battery has 38 modules (7.2v each) and a Gen2 battery has 28 modules. The process is to get a matched set of 38 Gen2 or Gen3 modules and put them in your Gen1 hv battery shell. JeffD
There is a supplier/rebuilder in New Jersey who is providing Gen-I refurbished battery packs with Gen-II or Gen-II cells. He claims that they provide greatly improved milage. How well this works I have no idea. Bill the Engineer
I put 38 gen 2 modules (2x 2008 packs) in a 2001 Prius because it was cheaper than buying a gen 1 pack. Mileage was same at the end of the day. I drove the car for 3 years until the transaxle went on me. 2008/2009 modules will definitely last longer and are superior than gen. 1 modules. With gen. 1 Prius blue book values dropping i'd recommend swapping out your bad/failed modules with good ones for $45 a pop unless you're looking for a project and don't mind spending $1200-1400.
