No I mean use 4.7uf cap for capacitor. Use 1M ohm resistor for R2. You can also use 33k ohm series with 1M ohm pot to make it adjustable between 0-6km/h. This is what I'm using for the new bypass.

Thanks for helping me and please excuse me for my near zero knowledge in electronics.

I went back to your scheme :
You said "You can also use 33k ohm series with 1M ohm pot"
Do you mean put both in-line?

Use 1M ohm pot instead of 100k pot to achieve near 0km/h. You can also add another resistor higher than 30K ohm in series of the pot to limit the higher speed.

Pots are only needed if you want to adjust the speed. If you want 0mph then just use a 1M ohm resistor with 4.7uf cap. Please return that hedious pot. You can use this 100k pot with 47uf capacitor instead of 4.7uf to achieve the same result.

R1 and R2 are for resistors only. Changing R2 and Capacitor combination values changes the output of the 555 timer. You can use this calculator Astable 555 Square Wave Calculator to calculate the frequency. It also shows you how to properly use a 555 timer. The parts you linked are correct. However, 1/8w resistor is enough. Radioshack does return opened package. You just need to make the item resellable.

    You said :

    2. Pots are only needed if you want to adjust the speed ( I don't need to change the speed. All I need is a 0)

After playing a little bit with 555 timer calculator
    [IMG]
    where what I'm thinking of:
    1. Replacing R1 and R2 with 1M ohm resistor
    2. Replacing the 4.7uf capacitor with 1000uf Like this

How about that? I want to keep things as simple as i can because I need to build the same video input for 2 of my friends.

Pots are adjustable resistors. Keep it simple. If you don't want any adjustments, use a single value resistor. The values you've used will not work. You need to keep the duty cycle percentage as close to 50% as possible. This gives you the same amount of highs as lows. High and low time can not exceed 90 seconds. If it does, the nav will switch to GPS satellite speed instead of VSS speed. When that happens, turning the bypass off and on will not override the speedlock.
I would suggest no more than 10 seconds of high and low time on the calculator. To keep it even more simpler, use 1K ohm for R1, 1M ohm for R2, 4.7uf for C and be done. If you want a longer high/low time, use up to 3M for R2. Nothing higher than that.

My head unit doesn't have GPS. So no needs to worry about the GPS signal.
As I said before: I have zero knowledge about electronic parts. So I don't know what the use of of high/low time (No need to explain).
I'll go with R1 1K ohm and R2 2M ohm and see the result.

Here's the poor man's solution to the navigation lock problem.
    • The circuit in the picture is from e-Bay for under $5 (search for 555 module). I've used and oscilloscope to set the frequency to 3.8 Hz and roughly 50% duty cycle.
    • The switch is a single pole double throw break before make. The rest are wires and connectors.
    • I've connected the red and black wire (circuit power in) to the back of the cigarette lighter contacts after I've improvised some prongs.
    • After cutting the purple speed signal wire I've connected (soldered) the green wire to the console side and the orange to the other cut end.
    Summary:
    • Circuit: $4,
    • Switch: free (I had it)
    • Wires: free (I had them)
    • Connectors: free (I had them)
    • Tools: free (I had them)
    • Time: about 2.5 hours including the preparation and installation
    • Skill: priceless :)
I provide this information for those with enough technical skill to do it for cheap. For the rest I suggest buying the pre-made kits that are available from other sources.

Many thanks to cproaudio for doing all the research and providing the fundamentals and to everyone else that contributed to a solution.

I received the TSHRCA+SLO1 in the mail this week. I will try to document the install in my 2014 Prius when I do it and post.

Just installed. Works like a charm. The colors of the wires are different from the instructions. Can anyone tell me what the orange and red wires are for? I only used the purple and blue ones.

Those are for switching the brake wires. If your nav unit plays DVD or if you've installed a video input jack, you'll need to hook up the red and orange wires in order to view videos while driving. Can you please tell me what colors are different?

Mine came with a purple wire and a blue wire. All of the instructions show purple and a purple with a black stripe. I spliced the purple to the head unit side of the VSS wire and the blue to the harness side. I taped over the red and orange wires and did not attach them. I assume that is correct?

The purple and purple/black stripe were the old color codes for the V1. The new diagram with color codes can be found at the bottom of the first post.

Thanks for posting the diagram, wish I had seen it before.
