Hi guys! Long time reader, first time poster. I was wondering if I could force my engine to start while in ev mode. Reason being is that while accelerating from a stop on a hill, the delay for the engine to start is a little annoying. Any comments or opinions will greatly appreciated! Cheers,
Interesting question, I find I need to do this when trying to use an oil flush additive before an oil change, I have found by pressing both the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal the engine starts, (sorry I cannot remember what position the gear selection is in) - I must admit however I did decide this may not be the best option and should just drive the car to let the additive do it's work
With the car in park, foot on the brake, you can press the accelerator and run the ICE at about 2000 RPM. There is no problem doing this. Some people do this to "force charge" the HV Battery. For hills, if you press the brake a little harder than normal an indicator will show on the MID indicating Hill Assist. This will keep the brake engaged for a couple of seconds until MG2 can develop torque and prevent rollback. The ICE may start depending on accelerator position.
I tried mine this morning sitting in the dentist's parking lot. The ICE was warm and off. I tried the Front Windshield Defrost and the ICE did not come on.
My question for the OP is, why are you in EV mode when approaching a hill? But, if you want the engine to start, simply press hard on the gas when you take off or, put your foot on the brake and press the gas as others have said. I don't know what you mean about a delay all my hybrids start the ICE without delay.
