So this started a few weeks ago, my wife was driving the car home and the triangle exclamation point light came on. I have a BAFX Bluetooth OBD II adapter and the torque app on my phone. The only DTC it showed was for the bank one oxygen sensor heater. I don't remember the exact code. I ordered an oxygen sensor but the car sat for about 2 weeks because we went on vacation. I put the new sensor in yesterday, plugged the adapter in and it showed a p3600 and p1436. The p1436 was because the exhaust valve was stuck, I have to free it about every 6 months but included this in case it was related. But I can not find any info on this p3600 anywhere. It could be my questionable adapter, but I figured I'd ask before I bought a scangauge 2. The car is a 2001 with 115000 miles. The 12v battery was replaced less than a year ago.
Thanks! I think I searched for over an hour for what would read codes and only got that a scangauge 2 might maybe work. Just ordered the cable.
I own 3 PRii. I wanted a good scanner. I also own a Scanguage II, but it wasn't what I wanted. I opted to buy a V2014.8 Denso Intelligent Tester IT2 for Toyota that would help me diagnosis problems with my vehicles. Yes, it's pricey, but I've used it four times in the last 6 months to clear problems on my vehicles. IMHO, it was worth every penny. You can see it at: V2014.8 TOYOTA Denso Intelligent Tester IT2 for Sale I like this tool because it not only scans for DTC's, but it also lets me excersise varied systems/items in the car such as the ABS pump. On long trips, I don't leave home without it.
For Toyota vehicles, Mini VCI running on a Windows XP or Windows 7, 32 bit OS laptop provides essentially the same functionality as Toyota Techstream for a low two-digit price on Amazon.com For example:
I am interested in this scanner but our NHW11 Prius use ISO-9141, not CANbus like your NHW20 Prius. Have you used it with an NHW11? It looks like it has a data recording capability but it isn't clear if any combination of metrics can be recorded. One problem with the miniVCI is it limits the data recording to sets based upon controller so doing an engine, transmission, and battery study is all but impossible. Have you tried recording at the same time: traction battery voltage and current MG1 torque and ICE rpm engine MAF or injector timing engine coolant temperature engine fuel trim, long and short term Only the old Graham miniscanner can report vis RS-232 up to six variables in any mix. The miniVCI can only record certain sets and only for finite durations, a little over 2 minutes before a manual restart. The ScanGauge II has no data output or recording capability. Do you know if they have a return policy? I don't mind paying a modest restocking fee but most of my questions are best answered with 'hands on.' Bob Wilson
Bob, those are good questions. I'm not sure of all the abilities of the tester, as yet. I purchased it to exercise the Anti-Lock master brake pump and finish up a job on my 2005 Prius. I had air in the lines downstream between the pump and the rear wheel cylinders and needed to get that fixed when I did a brake job without reading the Prii specific instructions. I'll have to look to see if it will do what you ask. I do know that it will monitor many engine and battery characteristics. I'll hook up the scanner and take a look to answer your questions and also take picts of the screen. As for warranty... the company I bought from was selling for the least cost I could find anywhere. The tester came to me damaged. I had to send it back to China ($140 shipping... ). The company would not pay for return shipping and I had to fight to get them to split the costs of the shipping of the 2nd unit even though they did warranty the first unit. They were not easy to deal with. Would I recommend them as a source to buy from? I think I still would, even with the hassles and costs it was the least cost I could incur. But when you buy from China, almost anything can happen and you have to be prepared to endure.
