Would there be any Damage after a new Prius was left running (engine on) for over 5 weeks?

    If there where no heat or AC demands placed on the car the only load would be a couple hundred watts to power the ECU and other electronics. The engine duty cycle would be very short. I read some guy ran his gen 2 for two weeks to power a small fridge after Katrina. I doubt this would hurt the engine or traction battery. Its likely less wear than driving for 3 or 4 four hours.

    Photograph the vin with your phone (to record it), then email the number and an explanation to Toyota USA? Or just a link to this thread? You know they're going to sell that car to someone.

    That's kind of what I was worried about. The fact the hood was so hot to the touch on a cool overcast day and that weird smell inside of it despite having almost 300km on it anything that needed to burn off should have been off long before it was left running.

    The place where I live is small (~Pop: 110,000). The Prius isn't a popular car here, you don't really see that many of them and when you do see one it is likely the one you seen last time (based on bumperstickers/sticker families/custom plates). Hybrids in general are special order at the various dealers other than Toyota which usually has a Prius in stock at the start of the new model year and it generally sits there until it gets discounted. Ford had a Fusion Hybrid last year (that was factory tested) but none this year. Kia Optima Hybrids are generally available used. Can't even get a Chevy Volt here. It's quite possible no one looked at it in all that time, especially being out on the field it wouldn't get the "Hey that Prius is running" while looking at/selling a Camry due to being out of earshot.
    I'm not overly sure why that is, Winnipeg is much colder than here so it likely isn't a winter/cold weather issue. Could be because everyone here seems to like Trucks and SUVs.
