Hi everyone! I've had my new PiP for a month now and I'm absolutely loving it. With my short commute to work and short daily trips it seems the PiP was made for me. I can't believe I've gone 600 miles already and still have half a tank of gas left. I've answered most of my questions by reading other threads here but I'm having one last issue that I can't find any reference to. If my iPhone Entune app is running, to either use Pandora or to remotely start my A/C, the nav unit will not alert me to incoming text messages as they come in. If the Entune app on my phone is not running/connected then everything works as it should. I was just wondering if others have experienced this. Is it a normal limitation of either the iPhone or the Entune unit in the car? Thanks for the help. Love all the useful information on this board. I'm hoping to hit at least 1000 miles on the odometer before I have to fuel up!
There are a lot of threads on this subject that have more background but for basics (iPhone 5S) go to Settings, Bluetooth. In your devices list you should see 'Car Multimedia'. Click the small blue 'info' icon on the right side of the entry in the devices list for car multimedia. It will take you to a configuration page for that device's Bluetooth connections. 'Show Notifications' is off by default in the iPhone...turn it on. The next time you are at your car, have someone text you and it should work just fine. If you are stopped, it will display the message...if you are rolling, it will read it to you. Good luck. Thanks, Phil
Thanks, but everything is set up fine. Like I said, it works correctly as long as the Entune app IS NOT running on my iPhone. If it's connected, to run Pandora or what not, and I get an incoming text message I do not get alerted audibly or on the nav screen. So pretty much for me -- Entune iPhone app connected to nav unit = no text message notifications through Entune.
Erik, Thanks...sorry...mis-read your post. will try it both ways in my car and see what happens...AFAIK, it does not make a difference as to whether I am using the app or not...I wonder if there could be a version difference between the 2012 and the 2014...
Erik...I have confirmed the same behavior in my car. When EnTune is running, no text message displays. I have not had a chance to check it with it plugged in (can't see how this might make a difference), but plan on checking it out... Thanks, Phil
Thanks Phil, appreciate the time you took to check that. I figured it was probably a limitation to the software in some way.
I checked this combination and got the same results with both USB & Bluetooth. But I did find that the text messages do come in and are readable, if any other interface, such as maps are selected on the car display. There is no response by the car system if Pandora is playing from the Apps interface or the Audio interface. If the Pandora Entune App is playing and the Maps are displayed, an incoming text will display and if you select the Read button it will mute Pandora, read the text and then resume playing the Pandora stream. I was testing with an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2 (unlocked but not jailbroken)
Thanks. I like to use the Entune Pandora app -- it's much easier to "thumbs up/down" songs from the nav screen. It's good to know that if Pandora is running and the nav screen is set to maps that the incoming messages will still get read.
