First, I wish the car could use the passenger air bag sensor to know their is a passenger and allow nav system to have full function. Since it doesn't. Is there a way to override this? I read a simple way for older Prius's, but not 2014.
This isn't a feature of the Prius in the UK, we can access all the navigator features even on the move
In the US, your warranty can only be voided if the vendor can prove that the flaw is your doing, not theirs,, so if you do it wrong, yes. Magnuson-Moss Act
No, if Toyota let dealers deactivate it why would it be there in the first place? Deactivating it would not affect the warranty unless you messed up some other thing by accident. If you deactivated it and were driving down the road and ran into another car while messing with the nav. and told the police that is why you ran into the other car, they would charge you with whatever offense that would be in your jurisdiction, here it's "distracted driving" even if they see you messing with it and don't get into an accident, and -could- be upgraded to "driving without due care and attention" in the event of an accident, a much more serious offense. Further, if you deactivate it and get into an accident and the police find out it was deactivated and that caused the accident, then they -should- charge you for that. So you are creating liability by doing so. All that being said, if you buy a Garmin, for example, they let you deactivate the lockout, but state quite clearly you are creating the possibility of liability and that you still have to abide by local laws, such as our (Alberta) "distracted driving" legislation.
