I put a new stereo in a 2008 Prius, Canadian model with no JBL system. I installed it as a "stealth" install. After installing it, it appears that I get worse AM reception. The trouble is, I didn't really own the car for long enough to tell if I'm getting worse reception than with the original stereo or not. FM reception is fine. AM is weak and drops more when driving near buildings in Toronto. Low AM stations are worse than higher AM stations....which is odd because some channels that were weak on my now gone Ford Focus are now strong, and vice versa. AM reception in my CRV is fine everywhere on the same route. My questions are: How's the AM reception normally in a Prius? Anyone have issues with AM on a SONY MEX-N5000BT head unit? Is the antenna used for AM and FM reception, or just FM? I'm wondering if I could have not not fully connected the antenna. Thanks.
Might be that I didn't hook up the wiring harness right for an antenna amplifier...will look into this.
Ok...I feel a little silly. I had missed the power antenna wires on the harnesses... now everything works. It's funny that it the antenna worked sort-of ok without the power going to it.
