I'm thinking of buying LED low beams vs. HID low beams. Does anyone have experience with both?

I was looking at HID kits and LED kits and have been swayed more into buying and LED kit. The kit I want is a bit expensive but it should be good for the life of the car (it also comes with a no questions life time guarantee).

I know there are cheap HID kits and cheaper LED kits, but I want something that works, is bright and will last.

I was looking at the Xenon Supply HID kit and the GTR Lighting LED kit. Any thoughts?

Just want to here some opinions. I don't have a huge amount of people to talk to about these things IRL.

I'm using DDM HID kits for more than 2 years and still going strong with 1/3 of the Xenon's price.

The GTR LED light pattern at the link you provided are terrible. Especially the pic that shows the light pattern in a totally dark room, with the light emanating only out the sides of the "light". This is nothing like the near point light sources like you gettm with a halogen bulb filament or an HID arc which disperse light in a nearly spherical pattern.

I use modified H9 65w halogen bulbs in place of the 55w H11 lowbeam bulbs in both of my cars. Quality Osram or Philips H9 bulbs cost about $8 each from Amazon and put out about 2200 lumen per bulb of bright, white 4300k light. Very good output compared to the stock H11 bulbs. Link to the H9 conversion is in my signature below.

The H11 bulb from ddm tuning is very loose, so you have to tape it with electrical tape or the better but more expensive kapton tape.

Comparing oem LED to aftermarket replacement LED bulbs are apples and oranges.

I put the new 2400lm led a in my prius and love them. Much brighter and whiter than stock. Instant on too! Coming from HID I was nervious but I've been using them for the last two months and I'm very pleased. Just a FYI they are not so good for the hi-beam.

I purchased the Xenon Supply HID Kit and they work great. However I've only had them for 9 months.

I have the Kensun 35W version and have had no problems in the two plus years since installation. I did buy some wire/plug adapters on ebay so I could remove everything. if I had problems

Any thoughts on getting 35w vs 55w?

I figured 35W would put less stress on the system. I spent about $10 to buy some H11 wires/plugs since the Kensun kit just had bare wires on one end. I was not too pleased that the kit was not "plug and play".

There could be a heat consideration, the 55w HID would run hotter than the 35w HID and even the oem setup.

Other members here have 55w HIDs, but no one has reported any problems with reflector bowl discoloration or melting, etc. Likewise, I haven't had any problems using 65w H9 halogen bulbs either.

I have been using the Xenon supply kit for over 2 years without issue and they have been great. They are however just starting to lose some of their "whiteness" (lack of a better term) and are taking longer to warm-up. But, now I'm intrigued regarding LED, especially hackenfort's set-up (9th post).
