Miles on OEM tires before replacement?

I replaced my Goodyear Fuel Max tires at about 46 K.
I suspect that I should have done so a few K before I actually did.

 

Apparently, because the Ecopia EP20 is an OEM tyre, Bridestone does not list a milage guarantee for it, hence my original question about longevity.

My original guess-ti-mate was 35 or 36K miles, so seeing numbers like 40-45-50K-miles is VERY good to hear.

 

Same here. Replaced the OEM Goodyear Fuel Max tires at about 45.5 K.

 

You have done better than I did with the EP20's that mine shipped with. Actually more than twice the miles that I got, and I am gentle on the car and kept the tires properly inflated.

In general though, as new car warranties don't cover tires, it is not uncommon to get short lived tires with any new car. They put out a tender for x hundreds of thousands of tires at a price point and install whatever tire manufacturers supply. Luck of the draw decides upon which make of tire you get. Some are very good.

Funny thing with those EP20's is that normally you have a tread life warranty from the manufacturers, but not with those, even if you go to purchase it again on the replacement market.

Goodyear OEMs. Went 51,500 before replacing with Continentals. Should have held out for Michilins.

 

i replaced my goodyear assurance at 2,600 miles. sold them on Craigslist, so don' care what the total miles are on the stock oem rubber. Changed over to Bridgeston Ecopias 422. I now have 21,000 miles on the tires after five months and i have used 3/10" of an inch of wear. the tires are at 7/10" of tread depth. I rotate the tires every 3-4,000 miles, in a rear cross or criss-cross pattern and run the pressure at 44psi front/rear. the rotations and balancing are done at costco and it usually involves a protracted and unfriendly conversation about my practices, if taken to a different location. the crossing of the tires alleviated the heal-toe wear and any anomalies associated with the poor suspension, positive camber, chassis roll and front wheel drive, braking and weight of the Prius. Round tires means better directional stability, even wear, mitigating road noise and better rolling resistance, which in turn means gas economy. i expect to get 40-50,000 miles from the tires, which then makes the cost of ownership about .10/mile on rubber consumables.

 

i run Ecopia 422 in Los Angeles. they are fine. I paid around $420 at costco with installation with their coupon. I bought a digital tire gauge on amamazon and run 44/44 hot.

 

Here's a picture of my front OEM EP20's after 50k miles. I expect these to last 100k miles. I'm an outlier, so don't use my tires as an expectation. I rotated the tires 3 times. I ran 40 PSI briefly but the dealer keeps resetting to stock and since I didn't notice much of difference in mpg, I stopped bothering about it.

Maybe they've changed formulation? I've seen EP20 under 5/32" remaining with that number in kilometers. Definitely those little sipes (you can see in the pic) would be gone. That said, the latest (of 2) sets we put on my son's car looked more or less pristine when they were last by. A cheaper, decent tire, LRR.

With the EP20 you can have any size you want..., as long as it's 195/65R15. And they're excellent in snow, as long as you've got snow tires, lol. Also, the tread pattern is a dead-ringer for the Insignia SE200.

 

Just replaced the Yokohama Avids at 51,000 miles on my 2010 Prius Four. I went with Continental PureContact EcoPlus, and watched my mileage plummet from 48 highway combined to 38 highway (and I drive about 3500-4000 highway miles/month). I bought the car used at 22K, so I can't swear that they were the OEM tires, but by 50K, they were thin enough that hydroplaning was beginning to become an issue. When I first got the car, I aired the tires up to 42 PSI on all four corners, but I got the exact same mileage at 35 PSI, and at 42, I was developing a noticeable wear stripe down the center of the tires. I'm seeing some reports that mileage on new rubber is always lower (deeper treads give increased rolling resistance), but if this is the "new normal" on these tires, I'm going to Craigslist them and get a different set of tires. I'm looking at about a $60/month increase in fuels costs if these Continentals are an indicator.... :-(

 

I call myself an outlier because I practice DWB (drive without brakes). It pisses off a lot of drivers but I stay in the right lane. Even the cheapest no name tires will last 100k miles if you rarely use the brakes.

 

Agreed. Braking slow (or not at all) and accelerating slow will help tires last a lot longer.

 

Driving ONLY in straight lines and NEVER making turns will also ensure ubber-long treadwear life (ha,ha).

 

Just replaced mine at 29K miles. Rotated every 10K and ran 40 & 38 PSI.

 

True...that's why people that drive on highways and interstates a lot usually can make their tires last longer.

Currently have 60k miles on my tires, I think I can do another 10k on OEM S33

 

OEM Avids changed at 70,000. Could have gone more but got screw in one so changed them all.
