To comply with Toyota's recomended service schedule. I think every post I have mentioned I was interested in keeping my warranty in force. Still am.

But isn't dumping nice synthetic oil with only 1000 or 2000 engine miles on it wasteful and silly? It's definitely not the 'Green' thing to do.
But if it is a matter of losing your warranty, you have to change it by the silly numbers...

I see no reason to argue or even be denied a warranty claim for what amounts to be an extra oil change or two. Once my warranty does expire though, I will continue to track my HV usage and consider extending my OCI . It seems to make sense to change at 10k HV miles like a regular Prius and unlimited EV miles. I think the Volt calls for 2 year OCI for the time requirement.

They said "The Scheduled Maintenance Guide is designed to help you make sure your vehicle receives proper and timely maintenance. Maintaining your vehicle according to the factory recommendations ensures that your warranty coverage remains intact, since damage or failure caused by lack of proper maintenance are not covered under warranty."

If they try to deny warranty repairs on the grounds that missing the 5k service was not 'proper and timely maintenance' they need to explain why the Toyota service intervals for the PiP in the EU are 10k miles...

Unfortunately Toyota "holds all the cards". They don't have to "explain" anything or even "prove" that a needed repair was caused by a lack of service in order to charge you for the repair. I suspect they won't do the repair unless you agree to pay. If you somehow the avoid the agreed payment or decide to get your money back for a repair the lawyers will smile and you have a mess.

i'd have to check the warranty manual, but there might be some type of arbitration available.

You are right. In fact you are required to use arbitration prior to any other legal action. It is interesting that none of the maintenance has anything to do with the very expensive electronic equipment. I guess the best plan is to go with the 6 months requirement even if it doesn't make much sense.
