Why the confusion? Are American cars still reliant on purely mechanical keys? Looking through the new car table in the back of What Car, only about 2% of all cars listed don't have electronic immobilisers, and they're the absolute cheapest versions of the smallest models. The Prius immobiliser is nothing special. And the push-button start isn't all that unusual. A full motion-sensing alarm system is also standard in all European Priuses; it would look a bit shabby if a car in that price range didn't have one.
Sorry to disagree, but the alarm system is only available in the UK (RHD) cars. But the rest of Europe has the Smatrt Key option which you dont have in the UK :mrgreen:
Good point. I'm not sure what that says about Toyota's view of our respective national characters... I'm hoping that the 2005 Prius will get the Smart Key feature.
I don't have SS/SE i have package 1 2009. This just started i used to have a little blinking light now i have a car with a key. What happened?
