My local Toyota dealership wants to charge $56 to turn off the reverse beeping and the seatbelt beeping. Is that normal? iPhone ?
My dealer too wants to charge $60 for this. The service writer stated that I should aggregate all the changes I wanted then they could do them at one time for the $60. As you can guess, I have been "getting used to" the incessant backup beeps for over a year now....
I don't think it's normal to drive around without the seat belt on, but that's just me, lol. With the amount they're lawyer'd up, I'm surprised they're ok with switching off that one. (Please bear with me, I'm cranky today.)
If you purchased the vehicle from that dealer, talk to the sales manager. They should have done this at "dealer prep", AND they -should have- ASKED you what your preferences were. However, after a year or more it is normal to see that kind of charge. Shop rates are in the $100 per hour range and higher. It takes time to plug in the computer and do the settings. If you have the GPS screen you can do some of these settings from there.
I told them to turn the reverse beep down to 1 beep when doing my last oil change. It's supposed to be included in the maintenance.
Thanks for the responses. I just assumed this would be free. You plug it into the computer and you change the setting. I hate the back up beeps and I don't need a beep to warn me about my seatbelt. iPhone ?
When possible, I tell prospective buyers to make setting customizations a condition of sale. The salesman will agree no problem, but the service manager is expected to turn a profit, so getting sales to agree is way easier. Once you are the owner, you have no leverage with the dealer. The ScanGauge II is a very nice device but costs $150+ only buy it if you want the other things it does. Correct me if I'm wrong. However, I believe Toyota pays for customization through warranty one time. I know I was able to take my friends' Prius v in when I was in Vegas to have the modifications made. It was almost two years old at that point. Being calm and knowing what you're talking about goes a long way. Service advisors are treated like door mats and if you come in loaded for bear, demanding stuff be done, they're going to treat you like every other @$$hole who comes in and thinks they know what they're talking about. If you're polite and nice, you can usually get whatever you want. A dozen doughnuts will also help.
At the dealer...they will do the noises for free...but the free 2 year Toyota care maintenance doesn't cover the extra oil change for harsh environments (as per the manual). So I'm paying the $60 anyway, just for the oil change now instead of the beeps. iPhone ?
I went in at 5,000 for ''maintenance'', told them I had recently went to 16'' wheels and tires, asked them to re-program the TPMS instead of rotating tires--- nope--- $98...... I have the ''Pro clip'' dash mounted phone, it blocks the little yellow icon anyway... I can buy a lot of gas for $98 + tax,,,, If I ever decide to put the factory wheels back on, they will be programmed,, to heck with that rip-off charge...
There are many things available on PriusChat, if you spend some time using the "search" function - good luck!
The price varies wildly. The dealer can charge anything they want. With a gen II the owner could do it themself.
Do it yourself on the cheap. Add NEW Smart keys. Add or delete options. Add and reset TPMS registration numbers. Check all ECU functions, OBDII codes, and faults. It's easy to use, too.
use Carista app.lets you turn off and change all kind of options.i turned off that annoying reverse beeping and even seat belt reminder.I don't wanna hear how it might not be the safest thing to turn off yea yea save it.I wear my seat belts faithfully !!
