Wondering if anyone has a Moto SLVR and if they can activate bluetooth (for hands-free calling) and play iTunes at the same time. The technical description of the phone indicates that if BT is turned "ON" on the phone music will not be routed to the phone's speakers or to any BT headset. I am wondering though if music is routed to the wired headset jack? Then I suspect, (with the headset jack hard wired to the cars aux port) you could play itunes in the car AND be able to use the hands-free BT feature for phone call audio..

Hmm, couple things to consider thou.

Assuming that music audio is sent to the wired jack, and you were using headphones, I know the phone will not play music and allow you to talk on it at the same time - not to mention it's very illegal to wear earbuds while driving a car. (And if you have a 06' you could use that handy audio jack)

And considering that it can only hold 100 songs + the battery drain you're better off getting an ipod of some sort.

I don't think he was intending to wear ear-buds... I believe he is trying to route the phone music audio through the car's stereo system while still having access to the car's BlueTooth capability.

This may be an issue: The Prius (at least 2006 with nav) BlueTooth device profile is as a "handset/keypad" device, not as a "headset" device. The phone may behave differently with the Prius than with a normal BlueTooth headset.

I know that in our '06 we cannot use the phone's built in voice dialing capabilities in our Prius, but if we had a true BlueTooth headset, we could.

Actually as far as the phone believes there's nothing odd about the car, it's just that the car's voice command takes over since there's no one button opperation like in earpieces. But in those few earpieces that have their own voice dialing software built into them, it would take over just as the car's do.

Well, I was not really interested in using any headset. All I want to do is hook the phone to that audio connector to allow music to flow into the car's stereo, while atthe same time have BT enabled on the phone in order to receive and make calls (handsfree).

This seemed possible if the phone routes music audio to a headset jack while BT is enabled. Not sure it does.

Interesting problem. I'm interested in what you find out. I'm looking to buy the Sony Ericsson Music player (I heard that the sound quality in the Moto for music is bad). My intention is to do the same.

Hook the Phone's music jack into the stereo plug in the center console and at the same time use blue tooth to be able to use the phone as normal. I wonder if the phone is smart enough to work like that (I think it should).

The only thing I could find regarding the phone is that if you have BT enabled music will not flow to the phone's stero speakers or drive a BT headset..the mystery is whether the music jack is still functioning with BT enabled. If it is, things should work, if it is not then we may be out of luck. I did not read anything about poor music quality, where did read that?- JV

Well I just picked up the Motorola SLVR last week and it works great with the car for phone calls, much better than my old Audiovox 5600 Smartphone. I know that if you have headphones on when you get into the car (listening to iTunes) and start the car, it tries to connect to the phone but since the phone knows it has a headset in the bluetooth connection doe snot work. Here is the strange part. If I then disconnect the headphones the bluetooth connection does not re-establish itself to the phone. What you need to do is go into the settings of the car and pick the phone again. I tried re-starting the phone, reconnect to the cars bluetooth connection again, nothing worked.

I have not tried to play iTunes if I have a connection to the car, I will try that tonight.

So far the other items I have seen with the Motorola SLVR are:
The car DOES display the bluetooth connection, signal connection and strength on the screen.
Contact Transfers work fine, just only 1 at a time. But how many contacts do you really need in your car...
The phone rings not the car when you get an incomming call, but does not use your current configured ringtone, I have not figured that one out yet.
It DOES NOT display the incomming name and/or number on the cars screen.
Transition from phone to car and car to phone work great. So if your on a call and get in it tranfers it to the car and also the other way.

    OK... I just got home.

I tried to start playing iTunes on my Motorola SLVR after the blutooth connection has been established with the car. It plays but no sound either with the car or on the phone itself.... pretty much what I thought would happen.
The reason for this is the same reason as why the new Motorola HT820 Stereo Bluetooth Headset does not allow audio play back in the headphones. The HT820 only allows audio from phone based process, no MP3, iTunes, etc... The reason is the SLVR does not support A2DP which is a streaming profile protocol. Supposedly this is a provider (Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, etc...) issue. The Providers have to add the profile to the phones, its not a Motorola support problem. With the Prius its the same, the Prius does not support A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) which is required to stream music files over bluetooth.

Actually. The main reason why phones do not have A2DP is because of battery life. It's one hell of a drain. It's not a carrier choice, personally I don't think they would care. Now the reason why you'll see it in US phones is because of broadcasting laws - technically you're broadcasting copywrited material. That's why if you ever do see a phone which will do A2DP, it's gonna be on a imported model (usually Japanese ones, I've only seen a few Toshiba's that do it)

Actually it is a provider issue. Motorola states that their phones will support A2DP but the providers choose not to because they dont have the means to support it, as you said the legal issues of streaming copyrighted music along with other technical reasons.

The battery life will not change, if you use a bluetooth headset for phone conversations, it will drain the battery just as much as a A2DP music stream, there is nothing different in the bluetooth connection that would drain the battery more.

There currently is 1 phone in the US market that supports A2DP, its the motorola razr v3X.

i got the SLVR and connected the phone to the HU via the AUX port or headphone adaptor (i dont have a Prius though, i have an audi A3, but the funtionality is the same) It plays the iTunes just fine but if i try to connect the cars bluetooth or a bluetooth headset it just says cannot connect.

As soon as i unplug the adaptor for the USB to headphone adaptor from the SLVR it allows my bluetooth to connect.

So it seems that there must be a way to "hack" the phone, if you will, so that it will allow the bluetooth to activate and turn off the iTunes if there is a call.

That way, if i have the phone plugged up to my car listening to iTunes I can still receive calls via bluetooth.... not sure why they didnt think of this in the first place.

did you ever find a solution to this? I just got a SLVR and tried the exact same thing as you. I can't believe that Motorola does not make this easy, or at least give the option somewhere of what to do if there is a Bluetooth headset connected at the same time as a directly-connected audio device. I'm pretty sure that their logic was: if someone connects an audio device, then they want all audio to go that way, which cuts off the Bluetooth. That was a bad assumption, if that's how they arrived at the decision.

Anyway, I want exactly what you wanted and would love to know if you found a solution.

    Thx.
