I have a 2012 Prius v (lowercase v) with a JBL radio/ Nav system. The screen is smashed but the entire system still works. My Toyota dealer insisted I need to replace whole system for $11,000. I can't understand why screen cannot be repaired. It seems to be a separate unit, If I press "close" button screen lifts and folds. Anyone ever repair a screen?
what? 11k? are they crazy? you must have heard wrong. i don't know if it can be repaired, but i would throw in an aftermarket head unit before spending 11k on an oem. can't be more than a grand or so. btw, welcome to priuschat, all the best!
Dealer suggested I trade it in and buy a new prius. I asked why would I buy another Toyota if they can't even repair a radio?
Dealer price is for the dealer to replace your's with a new head unit. They don't repair, just replace. Check eBay for a used NAV head unit like you have. Never know when someone went aftermarket and selling their original. Also, check with some area audio shops and see if they could get it repaired, or get a quote for a all inclusive aftermarket head unit with NAV, Sat radio, BT, etc.
Also go to another dealer. It's more likely to be $1,100 than $11,000. Otherwise hit the junk yards locally and ask for just that part, not the whole system. Usually they have connected junk yard systems that could find the part. The only downside is your's is basically a low volume upgrade so most junked v's won't have it.
