In the factory setting menu there is a button called Mic & Voice Recognition. If you go into that menu you see a Mic Input Level meter. Has anyone noticed that the sensitivity to that meter is virtually non-existant. If I YELL, I barely get three green bars and if I talk normal I don't get any bars. How many bars are you getting in this menu when you talk and yell?
While I have never done this, I use the blue tooth mic that was installed (Prius V, Navi) and generally I am told that I can be heard without issue. In fact, too often, I am told that I am too loud. I am not sure how much credence that I would place in that mic level, unless folks are complaining about not being able to make out your blue tooth conversations.
I do in fact get complaints about others not being able to hear me. An interesting test would be to see if you have a more sensitive mic by checking the level. Could you take a minute and check it. Thanks.
Part of the YouTube video posting in other threads shows how to adjust the gain on this mic. Even at full gain, it's not very "loud". Not sure if this is for noise reduction purposes, but there's definitely room for improvement.
I have my gain set to max (5) and my meter still doesn't register well. What are others seeing on the meter.
On P-III+Nav I am told I have good outgoing phone (BT) volume, and good voice recognition. I will try to check the setting and "meter". If the center vents are tipped up and blowing significant air over the microphone, people hear "noise".
Same here on my Gen III + Nav. I was told from day one that it is hard to tell that I am using bluetooth.
Could both you guy check the meter when you get a chance. I also have a III w/ Nav and its like talking at the other side of a large room to the other person.
No one has complained to me about being able to hear me, in fact, I usually have people yelling at me to shut up. I'll check the setting when I run errands.
Okay, I don't think what I found said Mic & Voice... but I found something to set my voice volume and it has about 14 pips that turn yellow when you adjust the volume. Mine was at 8 so I turned it up to 11 of course! I didn't find anything where there was a meter. Where did you find that? I saw something that had 5 large pips and it was set at 3 or 4 but it wasn't a meter that registered any sound I was making so I figured that wasn't the right thing and moved on and found the other place where I could set what volume I wanted me to be at. Iirc, I went into setup > phone > ???? I don't remember actually. Probably not that helpful, but I got to make a Spinal Tap reference so I hope you enjoyed that!
while you may have lost your interest in this, mine has been piqued, so get back here! I can't find that "page". Where is the factory setting menu of which you speak? I can't find that meter. All I can find are two different places for voice settings and one is to set the navi woman's voice level and one is to set my voice level. Both are under the "setup" button, under navi and phone, respectively.

Here's the youtube video showing how to get to the hidden diagnostic/service menu, and how to set the mic gain higher: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...67265-bluetooth-sound-quality.html#post930967 FYI, the easier way to get to the hidden menu is to hold the info button and turn headlights on/off 3 times. Many posters have said they don't notice any difference after doing this, but it can't hurt...
Aha! Got in and I have the same results as you rstark. Barely registers my voice on the meter so I went ahead and turned it up to 5, same thing on the meter. But no one has complained about my volume level when on a call so...
So, I know that this thread hasn't been active in sometime but anybody come up with a fix for the weak Mic??
