About 5 weeks ago I bought a 2013 Prius-V Three with 23,700 miles on it. It is Blizzard White with very light gray cloth seats, perfect for hot Arizona summers. I've always liked having a lot of cargo space--my previous three cars were a '73 VW Squareback, a '77 Toyota Corona wagon, and an '86 Toyota Land Cruiser. When the Prius-V was introduced in 2012, I thought, finally a Prius made for me, but I couldn't afford a new car and had to wait a couple of years until used ones became available.

The lifetime odometer showed 41.2 MPG when I bought it. In only about 1,000 miles, I've already got it up to 41.5. First thing I did was put the tire pressure up to 40/38. On short trips around town in Tempe, AZ, I was getting about 43 MPG on my first tank (all mileage reported by car unless otherwise specified). I then came out to Orange County in southern California for the rest of the summer. On my trip out here, with the cargo area loaded down with all my stuff (I even fit in my bicycle with the front wheel taken off), I got 46 MPG on cruise control.

Out here in California I'm now on my second local tank. My first tank here was 48.70 MPG reported, and 46.87 hand calculated. That's about a 3.8% over-estimation on the reported MPG. I'm now a couple hundred miles into my second tank, and I'm getting 50.2 reported so far on that. Most of my driving is on the freeway, without cruise control.

I usually keep the trip report on the screen so I can watch the big blue vertical MPG bar on the right as I drive. I find that between monitoring that, plus the power gauge on the left of the MID, I can make huge differences in MPG, but you really do have to pay attention because if you're off on the throttle even a little bit, the MPG takes a big hit.

I'm used to driving my big ol' clunky '86 Land Cruiser, so to me the Prius-V is actually a big step up in peppiness and comfort, and the road feel with the 40/38 psi Michellin Energy A/S tires doesn't bother me at all. I like to head up to LA twice a week to dance Argentine tango; one place is 40 miles away, and the other 50, so that is 180 miles all told round trip. My Land Cruiser was only getting about 12 MPG, so at California's $4 (or more!) gas prices, my tango habit was costing me 60 bucks or more a week in gas. Now I'm down to $15.

All in all, I'm thrilled with the car. My only regret is that I didn't start reading this forum before I bought, because I might have tried to find a Five model with the HDD and fancy navigation, etc., but then again I might have been waiting around forever for a used one of those to come along.

Just picked up my first Prius and couldn't be more excited. I purchased this 2006 from the original owner. Beautiful "Seaside Pearl" with all the bells & whistles, Package #8(?). Non-smoker, no accidents, garage kept, religiously maintained at dealer. He had it detailed, oil change, new (smaller) battery and new HID headlamps installed in the past week. Came with owners manuals, even the hang tags and window sticker.
I feel fortunate to have it and am heading to Vegas tomorrow for a test run and then off to see the great U.S. of A. in two weeks which is why I purchased.

Drives like a dream. Glad to be a part of the Prius family !! I've learned a lot from this site already.

Welcome to PriusChat! Looks like you got a great deal! Smart colour, nice lines! Looks good! You don't specify your location (I was just wondering if you're thinking of being in the NE USA for the ToGoB4 get-together (mentioned elsewhere on PriusChat) - Westford is only a stone's-throw from my location. - Wil

Thanks for the response Wil. Right now I'm in Phoenix, (changed my location), and after my Vegas trip will be heading to California on up into Oregon, Washington and into Canada, Then hopefully over to the east coast. Never been there and looking forward to a lobster sandwich !!

Nice. Imagine it with Arizona plates and that'd be our Prius.
