Rescuing G1 Prius from GRAVE

    Hello everybody I am vary new to the form I have been spectating for a while and now I have jumped into a new project in need of help I just purchased 2002 gen one NHW 11 Prius I am 95% sure it needs a new stator in the MG2 I'm trying to figure out how to lower the transmission enough to slide out mg2 without completely removing the transmission I have gone as far as draining transmission fluid removing CV axle and here is where I am stuck

    Never done it myself, but I'm guessing your next steps will include first supporting that end of the transaxle on a jack, then undoing the tranny mount at that end, which is kind of buried under the inverter, so you might have to move that to get access. Then you could see if by slowly lowering the jack, you can tip that end down enough to pull the rotor and stator out. I don't know whether the middle mount (the dogbone thing under the tranny running back to the suspension crossmember) might also need some loosening.

    Thank You champ for the quick reply luckily my neighbor works at a dealer and was able to obtain me a picture of all the mounts I'm just not sure how they come apart and I'm not sure if the crossmember would have to be lowered as well here is a picture of what she got me

    I've never had the inverter up and looked closely at the mount, but I would quickly guess that 12325A is what's bolted to the tranny, 12326A is what's bolted to the fender well, and 90179-12127 is a nut you'd loosen (once there's a jack to hold the tranny up) to let them separate.

    And, hmm, yes, the photos on the Luscious Garage page do show the crossmember removed, don't they. Shucks. So, the budget should include a front-end alignment once that's all back together.

    Those mount that you pointed out Chap look to be accurate, but I just can't see the bolt or nut that would have to be removed for the CVT to be lowered or raised. Also the pictures from the luscious garage link posted look very different from the one's in there video, here are some pictures that I snapshot with my phone, it looks like they did not remove the crossmember in these pictures and in another video that I saw they did not even remove the CV axle rather lowering it all as one unit also I am NOT able to see that dog bone mount in any of these pictures

    Those pics from the video are encouraging. So the crossmember doesn't need to come out. That'll save some time.

    The 'dog-bone' I was referring to is the 12363A in your drawing, you'll see it from below the car, right about in the middle - attached to the engine end of the transaxle, right where it joins to the engine. I expect you'll be able to tell whether it needs out or not, as soon as you have the transaxle end mount loose and try to lower anything.

    As for how the end mount comes apart, I'm afraid I've never been there in person and haven't got any more help. Shop manual volume 2 on techinfo.toyota.com may have more, in the section on transaxle removal.
