That's a bit much, I agree. But it's still not as loud as a lawn crew.

It was probably a little late in the evening - we just got home from dinner. And maybe I listened a little too long, after all I had to vet all genres of music before I was to be truly impressed.
Cops were there within 10 minutes. Neighbors around here are 911 happy when it comes to music noise.
Tap, tap, tap on the window...I got out and the look on this cops face showed he was expecting a teenager, not a 6'3" 280lb man.
He asked why I was playing so loud and I said because it's a Prius and I didnt expect the system to be so loud, so I had to explore.

    Period.

He asked me to keep it down and walked away.

On any typical day I can hear lawn equipment lasting for 5 or 6 hours. Its part of the season, and I dont bitch - no one does about that sound. But 10 minutes of a stereo brings the cops simply because of the stigma of that sound.

Noise is noise as far as Im concerned and Ive never had the cops out for running my 300mph leaf blower, but once the beat drops these neighbors cant call the cops fast enough. Eh, whatever. It'll never happen again.

As for my drummer son, he has specific times he can play and a cutoff although he's in a sound deadened room, the low frequencies still travel so we have to be aware of when he pays and for how long.

The neighbors "can't call fast enough" because you have no concern for anyone else.

Noise is noise? Stigma of the sound?

The neighbors aren't 911 happy there just sick and tired of your stupidity. Your basicly torturing them. There already pissed as you constantly make alot of noise and next thing your in the driveway playing the car stereo loud as it can go. Oblivious. What are you twelve years old?
    Not the slightest consideration.

So I had to explore? God....

Yep. And the lawn equipment is much louder and actually chokes the air with smog along with noise pollution. It also lasts much longer, and does a much better job of penetrating wood and glass, unlike a stereo.

    Strange indeed.

I have a couple neighbors who do nothing on the weekends but mow, weedwack, even leafblowing out the gutters and their driveway and sidewalks. The are just too lazy to use a broom.

Then they call in the Chem-Lawn trucks, which rumble the neighborhood. These episodes last for hours.

    Completely inconsiderate.

Hey, loud is okay, as long as it's the right kind of loud. Or should I say a "white" kind of loud?

Lawn crews, obsessive house additions, construction projects, drilling, weedwackers, all okay. Just don't turn up your music for a few minutes.

i used to live upstairs from a drummer. he grew grass in the backyard, (no mowers or chemlawn;)) he'd sit around and get high, then hit the drums around 2 a.m. with the stereo cranked. no problem, the weedwhackers are much worse.(y)more popcorn please...

Despite the critical tone of my original response, I'm willing to give you my personal benefit of the doubt.

As I said in my original response, yes, in any urban environment...a certain amount of "noise pollution" is going to happen. Leaf Blowers, Lawn Mowers...whatever.

But I think there IS a difference in noise.

I think when people hear a Leaf Blower or a Lawn Mower, they might be upset about the sound, BUT... they expect that the noise is connected to a task- with a beginning, middle and end to it.

Conversely? When someone decides to blare music at an auditory intrusion level? People have no idea how long the "expected" party might last. They don't know you are "just testing" your sound system. They don't know whether you intend to let it go for 10 minutes or 5 hours.

But even with my criticism of your actions, I don't mean it as criticism of YOU as human being.

There are far greater crimes against humanity and peace, than turning your Prius Stereo up too loud.

And I think it's a line many of us cross from time to time. I live in an apartment. Do I always wear headphones when listening to music? No. Could I be accused of perhaps occasionally having the volume up a little too high? Certainly.

The occasional infraction? I think is just part of the crowded dance of life we all find ourselves waltzing too...

Having an understanding as to why you should NOT do it, or attempt to be disciplined about it, is the difference. It took a visiting police man, BUT you did turn down the volume.

In a society that markets High Energy! and "Pumping Up The Volume"....having the maturity and understanding of why we should occasionally turn down the volume? Is key.
