I know this is an old thread but I stumbled upon it trying to see if I could fit a 70" vizio LCD tv in the back of my Prius. Since I didn't get a straight forward answer I took a gamble and drove an hour away to pick it up. It ABSOLUTELY fit!!!... with plenty of leg room for myself and passenger. Keep in mind you will have to take it out of the box and lay it face up so bring some blankets to surround it and cushion the back part from vibration and scratches. We decided to keep the cardboard box so we folded it length wise and threw it on top with the foam insulation but there was not a scratch on the tv when we got home it was just fine and we drove regular speed limits the whole time with some bumpy spots here and there. They say plasma's shouldn't lay flat so I wouldn't take a risk with those but LCD's are fine so long as they are well cushioned with no more than it's cardboard box on top. The cargo space of those little compact Prius' is down right magical when the back seats are let down, I just knew it wouldn't fit but it has proved time and time again to be able to tackle the most difficult task. Iam in wonder of this tiny magical car so far we've loaded a broken down dining table with 6 chairs, a 24' metal frame intex swimming pool with accessories, a pro-sized portable basketball hoop in the box, a 54" air hockey table in the box, a twin sized mattress, several dressers, an assembled baby swing, 6' ladders, the 70" vizio tv and countless other things with all the doors closing snugly behind them. I even picked up the 2 huge boxes for the Montpelier swing set they sale at walmart using my Prius, the swing set boxes were massive so they were hanging out of the trunk a bit but it was only a 2 mile drive and the boxes were so heavy that they weren't going anywhere. I love to see the utter look of shock on the sales peoples faces when I drive my itty bitty car up to their loading spot, load a big item, close the trunk and drive off just a few minutes after arriving. It is an amazing car and it can tackle most haul jobs.

Even if it did fit, how would you install it. And it really isn't safe to watch tv while you drive. ;)

55" Samsung in the box fitted in my Prius. Long distance transport would require very careful packing...
Measure the sides and note your actual vertical/horizontal space needs...with trunk space closed.
I tried hauling a doll house and even after "measuring" OK I still ended up 1/4" short of space...
Guess there's a reason I didn't become an engineer, mechanic, carpenter....
