I have uploaded my phone directory and added important phone numbers to the speed dial page. My question is, how do you add a voice tag to each of the directory phone numbers so you can push the talk button on the steering wheel and state the name tag of the phone number you want to dial? I can't find specific instructions in the 2008 Owners Manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also had trouble trying to set up Voice Recognition Tags. Could not find the record option page illustrated in the Nav manual, then discovered that while in the Edit Contact Data segment, in addition to inputing new or editing Name and Number(s), you can also press the Down Arrow (left bottom of page) and it opens up an additional option page which contains the hidden Voice Recognition Option. Manual says nothing about the location of this extra page. Just select the "Voice Rec" button and follow its lead to create your Voice Tag. Hope this helps someone.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(surge @ Oct 23 2007, 03:19 PM) </div> Surge, Just tried your suggestion and it worked like a champ!!! Thanks for your help!!! Using the down arrow does indeed bring you to a page with the rec button for assigning the phone voice tags. Thanks again, Sliderule
As the LEXUS guy says, when you register a new or old phone book entry you must use the double arrow scroll down icon on the LCD screen (at the bottom left) to get to the next screen that has the voice tag assignment function. You then push record, it prompts you through the rest. Comment: It is clear that whoever wrote the bluetooth software for Toyota Prius forgot the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid). There are no detailed instructions anywhere on programming the bluetooth for voice tags. The customer is left to trial and error to figure it out. Wake up Toyota!!!
As a general FYI, a lot of the screens have more than one page, which might not be obvious at first. Poke around a bit.
I just bought a 2008 Prius and was going crazy trying to figure this out! Thanks, it was easy after I read this post
I've got a 2007 and have the same problem. The answers here thus far are very helpful to some users, but I'm not one of them unfortunately. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you were attempting to do. You mentioned working in the speed dial section. I'm been expecting for the "dial by name" to search my whole phone book. Does voice command only work in the "speed dial" directory on the 2007? Mel
OK, you've given me a Hot Clue? You mention RECORD and I've seen that button in meandering through the Toyota Prius informational jungle. I seem to recall hitting it and nothing significant (to me) happened. What does the next screen say? Do I need to speak into the car microphone (wherever?????). I'm assuming it want to listen to my voice - that modern parlance - but then Toyota engineers and manual writers can't be up on everything (I suppose)! Or am I supposed to hit the talk button on the steering wheel and say a magic phrase (magic because I haven't go a clue of what it would be and if I say the wrong thing I wind up feeling soooooo rejected . . . and that's by an inanimate object :0) Mel (some progress is a good thing, right?)
OK, I haven't gotten that far yet. I need to ask this question. Does Voice Recognition Tagging only work on the specific Contacts that are being tagged during entry or editing? I've been assuming it was a generic. I keep getting the notice Voice Recognition Tagging is OFF and I was looking for the switch to turn it on permanently. Mel
