amber light under glove box

There should be a couple settings in vehicle customization for these. Its a courtesy light that comes on when you open a door, etc., and stays on for a while. I think there are LED replacements for them also if you want them brighter. Anyhow they are very dim.

If you look, it's only on when the headlights or parking lights are on. It lets you see into the lower glove box.

 

Can you not read the question? It is not the courtesy lights. It is a small orange light under the glovebox, look at the area where the passenger places their feet. Please read the question properly.

I also have yet to find out what this light is.

 

If it's not too bright, it's the footwell light.

 

Why would that be? It seems pretty useless as a footlight since it's so dimly lit, and why would the passenger side need a footwell light too?

 

Look under the drivers side too, you will find another light just like it, they are just footwell lights.

You have to manually check the cabin filter without the help of any light or sound.

 

There have been some hasty conclusions on everyone's part so far.

That one could indeed have been avoided by reading the question more closely, as it was not about the light in the glove box, but about the one below the glove box that shines into the passenger footwell.

Those are two different lights (③ and ② in this drawing, respectively), though they both use the same part number.

The parts are LEDs already. Under normal settings, they go very dim (but still not quite off) when you shift into driving gears, and they brighten when you shift into Park.

If I remember right, by cross-referencing the corresponding Lexus part numbers, you can get versions using white LEDs rather than amber.

Even after reading the question properly, though, "footwell courtesy light" is the answer.

 

If they are courtesy lights, they seem pretty useless as they're not very bright at all. Why even have that light there in the first place? The whole reason I discovered this light is because I saw it while hardwiring my dashcam.

 

Well, I don't know; mine seem bright enough in Park for me to notice if I'm leaving something behind in the footwell, which I think is more or less what they're for. As mentioned, they dim way down when shifted out of Park.

I don't remember for sure, but there might be brightness choices for them accessible with Techstream.

 

I changed mine out with the lexus white ones.
Much better and matches my 6000K led setup.
