I like these, and want one, but I can't really justify the price. I'm not trying to threadcrap, as I think your price is pretty good compared to what I've seen for sale elsewhere, but I just don't know why these pushbutton shifters command such a price in general. Really, aren't they just a few momentary switches and some LEDs in a housing? Seems like this would have sufficient volumes that it could be a $25-30 part. ?? Am I missing something?
That's the problem. There isn't volume for these kinds of parts. Theres really only a small % of prius owners that modify their vehicles. To r&d and then manufacture a part like this cost thousands of dollars. Not to mention the packaging, and marketing o the product. It really all adds up. For example, just to create the plastic injection mold for the main housing will cost at least $3000+ if it is designed and made from a good manufacturer. That doesn't even include the cost of making any units afterwards. Bump for LAW! good luck. kitkat... that guy never got back to me either.
