700 Mile Club

    Hi everyone I have finally did it and made it to the 700mile club
    -700.2 miles
    -11.072 Gallons
    -63.2 Actual
    -64.2 Reading
    -42 psi front and 40psi rear
    -drove a mind blasting 95 miles more when the tank said 0 miles left so around 605miles
    -weather was hot in the 80's but rained three or four days during this attempted
    -I drove city and highway miles which was about 50/50
    -I did a lot of P&G and still used the A/C about half the time or windows rolled down
    -This is in Chicago ,IL and the land is flat with a few small hills and hundreds of potholes LOL
    - I did my regular driving to work, gym, school, and drove on the weekends on the highway to places. I pumped about two or three clicks pass the first click to fill up that is why it says 11.072 Gallons which I never did before but was told it was safe once in awhile to do so for this type of tank attempt for 700miles. I didn't have a spare gallon and the most I drove pass 0 miles was about 65 miles but this time I pushed it to 95 miles because I couldn't do this type of tank again any time soon lol I took a chance and it paid off : )

    I am wondering if I will be able to get 700 miles on my prius c. the tank just filled up normal to first click, so far getting about 72 mpg with about 300 miles on the tank? has anyone gotten 700 with a prius c and how much gas does it hold?:oops:

    I did it. 700 miles in single tank on my prius c. No topping off the tank just filled to first click with 92 octane e 10. The last pip started to blink at 638 miles. So I put some gas in a can and put it in the back just in case.

    Easy 700 in my new red 2014 three. 9.727 gallons fill up yesterday. 69.9 mpg on the display scan gauge reads higher normally each trip than the display. Just trying to break this thing in, I did an 800 tank on my silver 2011 I had before and 75.0 tank. Just trying to keep pace with the new red one.

    if I ever have a drive that's going to take over a hour I'm going 55-65 in the slow lane and see what i can get out of that.I know it wont make the 600 or 700 club but so far i have not had a chance to put her on a long long drive to see what the numbers look like. I have only been doing in town driving.

    I am hoping for bodacious tailwinds on one of our 700-mile cross country drives, but so far only 600 achieved.
    DW not too happy with low fuel pip blinking, but I was getting surprisingly good mileage using a Driving With Load strategy in Colorado, so I think I'll let her stay in the car!

    OK. I made it.

    My daily commute changed a few months ago so that I now drive 52 miles a day, almost all highway. This, combined with warm weather (August 2015 in the Washington DC metro area) and little rain, have made it easier to get good numbers. The low-fuel blinking warning light came at about 630 miles, so I was running with it on for 71 miles. This was also my best fuel economy tank, measuring 67.4 mpg. When I filled up, the tank topped out at 10.4 gallons.

    You're not alone John. I've found some routes where I think I could do high numbers, but I have no reason to drive them enough to even try, so I don't worry about it. Where and how I drive dictates that I'll rarely see over 50 mpg and I'm okay with that. :)

    Yea in Gulfport Mississippi I could maintain 50 mpg but in Palmdale California going up and down the 14 and 15 freeway it may not be possible

    I try to go for this club. We will see. It is going quite well right now. I am not squeezing this car as much as I can /I am not driving longer distances with eninge heated, nor at night when traffic is low etc.../. I just drive normally, usualy 15-30km routes, which are not perfect for good MPG. 3.4l/100km = 69 MPG right now /so perhaps 67 in reality?/. I lost one of my fuel pip right now, after 140km = 86 miles. But weather is ideal 20 celsius and my 17" tyres are quite old, so perhaps are given me good performance for MPG. Fingers crossed. My wife just need to start understand, that I switch my driving behaviour from company sport car, to private grandma style :)) The first question from her was, why everybody is leaving us behind :) that was never case before.

    Good luck!

    I usually start same as you at around 3.4l/100km for the 1st 100 to 200km. But by the time I hit 1,100km it is up to 3.7 and usually end up just 10 miles below 700 miles per tank. All it takes is some bad luck getting stuck in traffic, some dumb person suddenly stopping in front of you, or cold weather etc etc.

    My advice...keep a reserved can of gas because when the last bar has been flashing and you run out of gas. There will be no warning and you'll be dead on the road with your battery only at 2 bars.

    edited: Changed 700mpg, to 700 miles per tank.

    I also had now some short trips today with 3x start stop engine. So I am at 3.6... But my last petrol pip returns, so 150km and still full 10pips :) and I will not risk to go to 0 with gas, as it can do serious damage... So I will only do 700 if I will be very close to 650-700 when last pip will start to flash.

    Looks like we have very similar driving challenges.

    My daily drive to work is 14.8 miles with side trips/stops to kids school, stores, shops, etc.
    Lots of 4 way stops, lots of 2 minutes traffic lights, and a couple of short steep inclines from stop, requiring use of the power band.
    Then evenings and weekends lots of very short trips to groceries, church, barber, kids piano, etc. Really bad for mileage.

    Yet I regularly get upper 600 miles per tank (almost 700 miles per tank), that I got bored and stopped monitoring. I also end up having 39kph average speed, very similar to your picture.

    In 2 years, have never taken a long drive and never drove highway more than 100km.

    Nice one, I think, I will do it like this once and than drive without checking mpg etc so consumption will be between 4-5l/100km which si all right for petrol car. I am just interesting for how cheap prius can drive :). I think even 2.9 is possible , but not in regular conditions. But driving whole night with low traffic and it will be easily achievable. I have prius very short, but i see, consumption around 4l/100km can be done without much effort and without slowing other cars, thats fine.

    Do you have experience, what is better for fuel consumption, please? I can not figure it yet for myself. Imagine this scenarios: 1. is it better when i start the car, to wait till car heat engine using petrol 2-3minutes, or is it better to drive immediately? Usualy car start ICE all the time for a short period. 2 - i noticed and read here, that when I drive from stop to 50kmh... It is best to use EV only from start and only start ICE at some speed lets say 30kmh at least so consumption will not be so high. I see speed below 50kmh is really weak point for ice to have a good consumption. But at speed 70kmh and engine heated, consumption is only 2.5l/100km + recharging battery "for free" that is great
