I recently turned on my AC and heard a "flapping" noise from the cabin air circulating fan blade. After a minute or so, noise gradually subsided. Two days later, I turned on the AC and a smell most foul filled the cabin. Being a farm boy, I know the odor of ripe dead animal and I'm guessing a mouse. Is there any reasonable way to gain access to the area where the fan is so I can attempt a clean-up?
The fan unbolts under the glove box look at post i wrote about keeping them out good luck with that smell jim
Whups, sorry, I just noticed your Prius is a 2006. My advice is for a gen 3 2010. My advice may or may not work on your 2006. The fan is mounted blower wheel up, right under the cabin filter. Remove the glove box, remove the cabin filter and reach right down into the blower wheel to retrieve the dead mouse(latex glove recommended . I went through that when a Toyota oil change tec slid the cabin filter out to inspect the filter. A mouse had piled dry cat food stars on the filter. When he slid the filter out, some of the cat food fell into the blower wheel, causing severe imbalance when the blower ran. The tec said it is fairly easy to remove something like that from the blower wheel using a 90 degree elbow in the end of a vacuum cleaner hose. Took us about 1/2 hour with a vacuum to suck out the cat food stars and the imbalance was gone. I no longer fed the cat in the garage after that, so the rodent had nothing to store in my cabin filter, so never any more big chunks of trouble atop the cabin filter.
