After market Navigation

Does anyone know these are satellite radio ready or not? Some of the titles say 'sat', but there are no details in the description for satellite.

 

Although the unit comes with some SAT radio interface cables, I'm not sure if it does or not as I don't subscribe. It also gives you the impression that there is an elaborate TPMS interface but there isn't. It was never developed by the M&D software group (probably in China). Some here have complained about the Bluetooth interface failing, but I found out there are various levels of BT. I've had no problems with mine, but I think I have an older version of BT on my flip phone (OK, I just admitted I'm "old school"!)
One thing I discovered when I upgraded the LEDs in the backlit buttons is the little area beneath the volume knob that says "mic" has nothing behind it! You really need to use the external microphone they supply.

 

Just a typical backup cam install, mounting the camera and getting the wiring to the head unit are the hard part. Connecting to the M&D isn't difficult. See my installation notes earlier in this thread.

 

If you want satellite radio you need two optional modules, Sirius SCC1 ($43) and M&D IPS01 ($41)

The M&D IPS01 module also allows you to use an iPod.

 

just joined. My son busted by unit and I have to replace it. I am not a techi. I plan on having it installed for me. But would you recommend it for a 66 year old lady!

 

What unite did you install? It does not look like the Myron and Davis that evpv said he installed and showed photos of it.

 

Welcome to PC, Samantha Lee Even if your son broke your (assumed) OEM NAV unit, couldn't it be fixed? If you say you would have a M&D unit installed, that could cost you another $200 over the $300+ for the aftermarket version.

 

Are the M&D units still available? I looked on ebay and didn't see any.

Keep in mind that the 2010-11 cars had a black console, the newer cars have silver, so you'll need to buy one that matches your car.

 

I have been very pleased with my TomTom live 2050 but TomTom are now charging over $100 for map updates and Live traffic updates. However they are offering these things free with new Tom Toms. I figured a new Tom Tom would be worth two years or so of "updates" so I bought a new Go 60. Imagine my horror when I realised that the new GPS has less features than my old one, but worst of all, the new screen is almost invisible in bright sunlight while wearing polarised sun glasses. According to TomTom, this is so across their whole new range.

TomTom's reaction was to tell me to wear unpolarised sunglasses, quality versions of which are almost unobtainable and far less safe.

I am returning my TomTom for a refund, keeping my Live 2050 (1050 in US I think) and looking to other manufacturers for a replacement.

 

It's Witson. Says on the picture. I searched and they are not available and probably never were in states. That poster is from Greece.

 

I found one seller asking $375. IMHO, not worth it. This is old and unreliable Windows CE technology. I think future is in Android devices. I converted my whole household to android phones and tablets. No need for GPS and any of them do turn by turn navigation. My only need is Bluetooth now and this is why I'm looking.

Avoid at all cost ..the unit crashes when u try to use gps and corrupts the card. I would reload the card work for little and crash again

 

The units are OK if they're cheap, as long as the buyer understands the caveats. They are an old design that looks like it originated in the mid-2000's. The SD cards are definitely the weak point and should be backed up immediately after buying the unit. If you want something highly reliable and the latest technology, then they are not for you. If I had buckets of money, I would likely buy one of the really nice two-DIN units and get it professionally installed. I got mine for well below $300. The bluetooth quit working after about 60 days, but it has still been worthwhile. Ill likely replace it in a few years. Its certainly a get what you pay for type of thing. If you know that going in, its OK.
