After having two kids in two weeks run behind my car while I was backing up I wonder if anyone has tried a proximity sensor to sound an alarm if someone comes within X feet of the rear end? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks
See if you can locate a rear parking sensors kit - it's a standard toyota accessory in our market for the C. There are a few posts on the forum about this; they might help you track down an oem equivalent. I have this on my C and it's very effective. GT-I9300 ?
Search for an Echomaster dealer or installer in your area: Products We have the reverse sensors in both of our cars and like them a lot. The Prius has a backup camera, but the echomaster will audibly warn you if an object is close to your bumper.
Got you! Now I understand what you meant. I would rather just drive my car to Hawaii and have you guys do it. My wife might even go for that if she could come along. Thanks again, Mike P.S. The C does not have BU cameras.
Our local dealer offers the product as a dealer installed option. They have an installer come in a few times a week, it takes him about 20 minutes per car to install. It helps when reversing because the intervals between the beeping will shorten the closer you get to and object till it becomes a continuous tone within 2 feet from an object. SCH-I535
Do you mind sharing the cost? There are Prius vs here with rear bumper damage I'd like like to avoid... iPad ?
I think it was about $400 or so. It was financed in with the total package. It only added a few dollars to the monthly payments, so it seemed well worth it. SCH-I535
Echomaster is a company that makes stuff for Ford vehicles. I found out about them through some research on accessories for my wife's C-Max Energi. (It was priced competitively to a PIP and got a lot more battery range.) It's really nice to know that the installer took such a short time to install it, because that means it is probably less "invasive"/less possibility of causing trouble/easier to remove if it does.
