    Hey everyone,

Im new here but I've been lurking on the fourm for a while. I did a little searching and i turned up nothing. I was wondering how big of an amp you can put on the 12v battery. I have a 2200w rms amp(won't be getting close to that in the near future) and im worried about the onboard electronics and the inverter ( which I assume is like I alternator). So I would like to know what other people are putting in their car and more info on any systems involved.

The 12 volt battery won't be powering your amp, the hybrid battery will. The 12 volt turns the computers, the computers turn on the hybrid battery. The only time the 12 volt would be powering your amp would be in the acc mode, and you wouldn't want to do that.

Just want to make sure im following, if I hook my power wire for my amp to the 12v battery the hybrid battery is actually powering it? I thought i read the hybrid battery was 260v somewhere. Would there be any negative effects on the traction battery ( except draining it faster thus worse mpg?)

There is a 100 amp fuse in the DC line from the DC-DC converter to the battery. You will want to keep the current draw below 80 amps/1000 watts.

That is only partly true......and he said he was concerned about the charging circuitry too, as he should be.
If the inverter can't keep up with the load, the battery will contribute.

If he gets anywhere near even half power on his amp, I think he is in for trouble.
And putting in a bigger battery won't solve the problem.
An additional 1100 watt load on a 12 V system requires about 90 amps.
I'm sure that is WAY over the extra capacity of this little car, battery and inverter.

And just to clarify a bit: The traction battery feeds the inverter so when the car is running, that produces all or most of the 12 V power.
When the car is NOT running, like in ACC mode, the 12 V battery takes over.

I think putting a 2200 W amp in a car is ridiculous, just on the face of it. Never mind if you can modify the car to handle it or not.
And in the case of most hybrid cars, trying to modify the car to handle it would be the SECOND big mistake.

Thanks for the info easy rider. I guess I need to start looking for a new amp haha. I just happen to have the amp laying around from an older car I had.

On the C, the Big battery is 144v, and constantly charges the 12 volt line when Ready, always be in Ready when powering electrical accessories. When you are in Ready, there is no risk to the batteries as the engine will run to recharge them as needed,
