Well, nothing has fallen off so far.....

 

I'm about 20 months overdue on this. Went over 100K in late September 2012 with our August 2004 purchase.

And on 6 Nov 15 I discovered I HAD posted back in December 2012!

 

Bought an '09 Prius Base Model (no backup camera) in March 21011, at 41K miles. Have added 70K, to 111K. Total repairs: one parking-light bulb. Drive a lot on Interstates at 70-75 mpg; average 48-50 mpg in warm weather, 46-48 in winter. Current concern: 5K after oil change, oil level is down about half a quart. Typical? Will oil burning become serious in the next 100K miles?

 

What OCI is called for on your 2009? My 2004 is 5,000 miles.

 

I have 173000 on my 07. Bought it on 9/21/06 back when you had to wait. I was averaging 51 mpg with my original GY integrities but all tires after that have kept me between 46 and 47. can't hypermile, perhaps due to my area being so hilly and also the not so good tires (even though they are LRR) I have been happy with the maintenance of the car. However it seems to not hold alignment very well, but then again I haven't aligned it more than 2 or 3 times. Around 150K it started using a qt of oil every 600 to 1000 miles. It seems to vary. It is not leaking any. I park it the same place day after say and no drips. IT seems to ping, especially on hot weather. I am not certain it is pre-ignition though. I recently checked my 12V battery and it is still strong based on the diagnosis accessed via the onboard display. I am still only about 2/3 of the way through my original brakes. I am a firm believer that there are 2 pedals that are never to be used in a prius, the gas and the brake pedals. I am a little concerned with the Traction battery because due to the hills in my area it cycles often between 2 bars and full charge, and often goes into that high revving over charge down hills. I will say though that the battery does not seem to go low or charge faster than it did when new. It is a comfortable car for driving although I miss a sportier car. I was amazed at how close I came to loosing control in a dry road emergency maneuver. It felt like the front wheel I was turning toward started to fold under and the car almost tripped over it. My only real complaint is that I cant seem to get used to not seeing the front of the car. ITs all dash and I often do not park as far forward as I should. Also I seem better at parallel parking my Ford F450 flatbed better than I can the prius. Between the dash, head rests and rear pillar, there is not as good visibility all around as other cars I have had. Also, the fuzz upholstery does not wear well. and is getting bald on the seats and arm rests. Next time I will get the synthetic leather. It would be nice to not have so much black plastic inside as well. Seems cheep. I do like how the doors and other moving parts seem nice and solid. I went to one of the big auto shows once and went around opening and closing doors. The only cars that were equal to the Toyotas in the solid feel were top name luxury cars, Mercedes, etc.

 

Well, I now have 112+K miles on my '06 Prius (every option except leather) I bought in July 2006! No major issues with the vehicle - I still LOVE it! I have replaced the 12v battery at ~ 75K miles (I had allowed it to become completely discharged a couple of times - replaced with an Optima yellow top); the hot water reservoir pump was squealing, so it replaced under warranty; changed out tires and wheels at ~ 30K with Michelin Hydro Edge tires - still on the car with significant tread remaining! Required alignment at ~95k miles - abnormal outside tire wear.

I would estimate that the lifetime gas mileage to be ~44 MPG - not bad for Texas highway speeds (75 MPH speed limit!). I don't drive conservatively, but more like I have driven my pre-Prius cars.

 

Ive only driven mine for 2 days so far and it came with 120K the only thing ever done to it was a headlight sub assembly , the non traction battery and plugs by previous owner. Everything else is original. Of course I have no baseline BUT the car feels absolutely perfect. No rattles or squeaks almost zero wear on interior, everything works very well, power windows are fast, stereo (JBL) is decent and doesn't break up. As per the computer I am getting as high as 62 Mpgs AVG (optimistic im sure but speaks to it not loosing too much effecieny thus far) on local 25 mile trips (with some hills and close to 90 degree weather). The car is smooth, quiet, brakes really well, seems to handle very well for what it is. All I can say is if I didn't know it was a 120k car with nothing ever done to it I would find it hard to believe. I don't recall ever owning or being in a car with this sort of mileage that seemed so fresh. I could imagine it with a car that was meticulously maintained and already had things replaced. But this car although maintained in regards to fluids , filters, tire rotations and such has nothing done and was used by a young college kid, for cross country roadtripping out west in the mounatins, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, etc and used for ski trips with snow tires on it and packed with people and gear. Not garaged. The outside appearance/ paint VERY clearly shows it has been USED. From inside and performance wise If somebody told me it was 30-50K car I wouldn't blink an eye. No rust anywhere despite living outside in the North East Catskill region and used for ski trips etc. The leather seats look brand new. They were not a supple leather from the Jump but still the lack of any apparent wear is pretty astonishing. Same for all the interior materials besides the material on the center rest and drivers door which is not awful anyway. This is really the only modern "high mileage " car Ive ever purchased and although it is very early I am BEYOND impressed. First hybrid, first Toyota.

It would seem that Toyota over engineered and more importantly OVER BUILT these vehicles and really wanted a Halo Effect and home run with these. All my research tells me these vehicles are holding up better (on average) then anybody might have imagined (maybe even Toyota) when they were a new fangled contraption that people thought would be super costly to maintain, recycle, fix etc etc.

I thank all those early adopters and people that made the car so popular so that I could be in a position to buy what I consider a really good ,comfortable, utilitarian and cost effective mode of transport ( and fun in its own peculiar way) for 7500.00 and really not feel like Ive given up almost anything by buying used and LOVING not worrying that every little trip I take costing me 5-10-15 bucks (especially when Im solo or just want to take the dog to the woods or whatever).

My goal is to baby this car and get in the 200K club and then the 300K and beyond and keep this car as long as is possible and ring out every last bit of functionality and value from it, even if I aquire other vehicles for other reasons and purposes. My other Car is an 02 Corvette which for a 350 HP 170 mph car gets an astounding 30 + hwy at 75 mph and can be run on lower octane fuel if you don't mind losing some thrust. I have always thought GM deserved more credit for producing cars like this who's euro and Asian competitors in this segment never even came close too in terms of fuel efficiency to power ratio. Shout out to the new vette engineer's who made a 450 HP legit 200 mph super car that can achieve 29 mpgs. Im sure I could hypermile it into the 30s.

Now Im just waiting to see if the ELIO Motors 3 wheel ever becomes real and hits its goals. If so I will add one to my stable to offset the little bit of fun driving in the Cheby I do, 5k a year.

I may have used the word incorrectly. Usefulness YEP. Beauty, well that is always somewhat subjective . For me though in this case the form following function does in fact result in a reasonably attractive form. I am also of the mindset that "simple" almost always is more pleasing and usefulness can be beauty. I like the relative simplicity of the interior on this car as well. Language is a pretty rough tool.

But by most accepted ideas the Prius is not as pretty as Lamborghini Mura or as Handsome as a Pantera .

I have owned a few cars that were not particularly "good looking" but had great attributes. 69 Barracuda Fastback (very utilitarian in fact). 2005 Subaru WRX STi that looked like a brick with a mailbox on the hood and a park bench on the rear deck. Amazingly fun car to drive in the snow or briskly in the twisties but often had me receiving looks of derision when people saw a 40 year old man piloting a car that looked like it should be driven by a kid or on the lot at a fast and furious movie set.

261,000 and still going, 50 mpg, no major problems, going for 300k. Synthetic oil every 5K, only ONE major service, ignored the rest.
Already have a nice series 5 picked out with electronics package, just not sure if it will be a 2014 or 15 :O)

 

My 2008 Prius, I purchased in fall of 2008, was acually used with only about 9,000 miles on it. I have since ran up the odometer to 167,000 miles with no major problems other than the engine is now using a little oil. I have had no mechanicle failures whatsoever and I am very satisfied with the operation of the vehicle. I commute 55 miles one way and over the last 5 years I have saved a huge amount of money on fuel, and repairs that may have come with another more unreliable vehicle. This is my second prius and I will possibly be purchasing a third in late 2014 or 2015 when the next generation Prius is released. New technology is on the horizon with hydrogen fuel cells and all electric vehicles but I believe as far as cost per mile the Prius will be ahead of the others for years to come. I cant afford to pay $70,000 dollars for a Tesla or Toyota FCV so I am eagerly awaiting to see what improvements have made on the next generation Prius.

I bought a 2004 with 176k miles on May 28. I'm not sure if I should post under this thread since I didn't put those miles it. A little over a month later it now has 181k. I'm still on the original traction battery and I believe the 2nd 12v battery. I've replaced the water pump, engine air filter, cabin air filter, and I'm about to do my 2nd oil change.

 

104,000 miles on mine. Purchased 10/2013 with 92k and quickly packing on the miles. I have owned around 25 cars in the past 22 years. A few Honda Accords, a few old GM tank beater cars from the 70's/80's, full sized Pickups, a few fast sports cars, BMW's, a Lexus, and currently a Range a Rover. I must say that unbelievably this Prius is the BEST car I have ever bought. So smooth, comfortable, and easy to drive. It was meant to be a daily commuter car, but has since been turned into our road trip car as well. The only problem is my other vehicles (gas guzzlers) barely see the light of day anymore!

 

I now have over 100k miles on my 2006 silver pine mica Prius. I got the car with 30k on it. I changed the transmission fluid at 50k miles, switched to synthetic oil then and change every 5k. I changed the 12V battery out with an optima deep discharge after 7 years as a preventive measure, the old battery was still ok. I typically get 47mpg in summer and 43 in winter. Still on original brake pads. Got window tint last year.

Other than the recalls on the pumps and steering column that were paid for by toyota, the only "repairs" I have had are: I replaced the right and left tail lights after they burned out (~$2), and I had to replace the windshield after ice fell off a truck and shattered it. I have hail damage but chose to be cheap and not get it fixed.

We bought ours September of last year with 140k or thereabouts on it, a year later, we've got 165k. We've replaced the 12V battery, done a few oil changes, and are doing the tires this week. We drove some non-Prius all around SanFran last week (we live in Michigan), and we were so glad to get back to home and drive the Prius again

 

Hit 150k today ... 2007, purchased just before the tax credit was cut in half for the second time April 1 2007. Still running great, although I'm wearing out portions of the interior trim.

 

We just rolled over the 100,000 mile mark last week on our 2008 Prius, purchased inMarch of 2008. We are very pleased with the car since it has been trouble-free. We are still on the original brake pads but the third set of tires. The OEM tires were shot in only 37,000 miles which was disappointing. We have averaged 50.5 mpg for about the last 40K miles and we do not hit the reset key so we have a long-term result. I hope that it keeps going at least another 70K miles at which time we will make a decision as to whether to replace it with a like model or look for something else.
