I live in CA and cannot legally use the windshield for placement of my current Garmin i5 GPS. I have a 2006 Prius with Pkg. #6. What are some ideas for the best dashbaord placement, since the adhesive is basically permanent? Thanks for any help.
I have a Garmin 2610, I mounted it to the left of the steering wheel next to the side window defroster outlet. No part of the windshield is blocked by it yet it's still quite visible.
Thanks -- The defroster vent doesn't hurt it, right? I sort-of wondered about that position, but thought that, perhaps, defroster air might not be good for it. ( I am not an electronics whiz... ) A friend told me not to put it there ( where you suggested ) due to the potential of the side airbags inflating. That seemed like nonsense, as I care more about my life than my little GPS!
I checked for that, the defroster does not hit on the GPS, for the airbags, I think it's low enough so the A pillar bag would go over the top of it. Good thing to check though if your GPS is taller than mine.
A StreetPilot i5 is 1.3 in height, and your 2610 is 1.7 ( this info is on the Garmin site ), so I think I'm safe. I really appreciate your help!
I have a Garmin c330 coming in the mail along with a "bean bag" type dashboard mount. The mount was $40 at Fry's Electronics and $28 online. This type of mount is legal in CA., will not be permanent fixed to the nice new dash of the prius and user reviews say it does not move around. I especially like the idea of moving the thing from prius to motorhome to wife's car, etc.
