    OK great month for PiP!
Well, I don't totally agree with the article which suggests the stellar PiP sales are NOT related CA green sticker sell-out.
Looks to me like a significant majority of PHEV sales are in CA so far in 2014.
Congrats to Toyota for having the vehicles available in CA and elsewhere to meet the demand.
Congrats also to our PiP owners.
But where do PiP sales go from here? Texas and beyond?

i'd like to see the state by state breakdown. also, prices were reduced which was probably somewhat helpful.

Very little state by state data available to the public.
About the only thing we get is California numbers each quarter, from CNCDA.org, and I think all we get from them is combined Prii (c+v+LB+PiP). I will check to see if they split out PiP, but I don't think so. CNCDA does give total PHEV and EV in CA.

If we had Volts sold in CA, we could back out PiP in CA, but I have not seen any recent Volt sales data in CA either.

The "executive summary" is that PiP sales were second only to the Leaf for plug-ins. This category includes both plug-in hybrids and BEVs such as the Leaf. The article I read pointed out that even if the green HOV decal limit in CA were a factor, that would have similarly boosted Volt and other plug-in hybrid models' sales. We'll see if this is a one-time thing once June numbers come out.

Even better than last month which was pretty good. Seeing a lot more PiPs around here too.

This is a great website with lots of comparative data:

Well deserved and highly under-rated. About time...

The story says that the May PiP sales were "without the green sticker." True, cars purchased in CA in May missed the boat on applying for the stickers, which ran out May 9. But May purchasers might still have been snapping up the last of the pre-stickered cars from dealer lots. (Dianne?) All the more likely since a majority of CA PiP purchasers cite HOV stickers as their top reason for the purchase.

If I'm right, the June numbers will be down sharply.

When the green stickers come back til end 2014, it will be anybody's guess if the 2015 bill will include future PiP incentives...so 2014 shaping up as banner year possibly if it looks like last year for PiP in HOV. I agree it seems demand filled by now..interesting to watch.

The 15,000 increase in the trailer bill would be about enough to satisfy demand through the end of this year, or likely a bit longer since the dealer sticker program, which inflated the issuance rate from Sept. 2013 on, might not be reinstated.

Beyond that, there didn't seem to be much opposition to AB2013. But its current version would add just another 15,000 (total 70,000) which would run out some time in 2015.

I personally think the reason for the spike in May sales has to do with the available incentives in California. 0% APR for 60 months, no payments for 90 days, $4000 from Toyota toward the loan, $2500 federal tax rebate, and $1500 CA rebate check meant that the PiP cost less than a regular Prius 3. It didn't make financial sense to buy a regular Prius 3.

I don't think that having HOV stickers actually helped sales in most cases, because dealers were charging a premium for the sticker.

That incentive was available back in 2012. I got mine like that.

You're right USB but recall at that time PiP were much more expensive in CA, so they came to MD for PiP in some cases in 2012. Now CA has some of the lowest prices, I assumed related to having enough inventory for green stickers sales.
