Because I bought a 2012 Prius c Two model, it has no Smart Key system. When I'm carrying things with both hands, it would be nice to just open the door without fussing with the key fob to unlock it. I certainly wouldn't try to install it myself, but are there Smart Key systems in the aftermarket that would work like Toyota's factory-installed system? (n)

i dont know if there is any quick or oem install, but you can look up the AdvancedKeys website. they have the smart key system and also have a push start button. i have actually bought this system and will install it in the near future lol

I hope you do an install write up. I have been wanting to do this for a while but haven't taken the leap. If you don't mind my asking, how much was the system you got?

it was pretty pricey, i got it for 270? but i got it at a discount. but the reason i choose this company over the other ones out there is because AdvancedKeys uses an OEM toyota push start button, so the button just snaps into the C1 and C2 empty hole (the stock location). They also have very good phone support.

That's not bad. I figured I would jump on it if I lose my keys. I already lost one in an airport. I figure buying that system is only a little more expensive than getting replacement keys with programming.

but what does this kit actually include? the real smart key system does not require a key to enter the car, but if the installer is simply installing a button to start the car, the owner still needs a key to unlock the car and release the steering wheel lock.

the advanced keys kit that i bought makes the car just like a smart key. no keys needed and remote stays in your pocket the whole time. the kit is pricey, but i know people who have had the kit for 3-4 years without a problem.

I want to echo the request for "kingnba6" to write-up his experience when he has installed the AdvancedKeys system he bought. Many will learn from your experience of actually retrofitting a Prius c with a smart-key system. Hope it goes well!
