When I was in Pasadena California yesterday I saw a Prius with the steering on the right side instead of the left. The Prius was a White Prius without plates. It was parked on Colorado Blvd near the Apple Store. I am wondering why a right hand steering Prius is in the area, and whether the owner is on Priuschat.
Sounds kool to me, right hand drive is a rarity/ collectors item.. I'd own one... you could let the pasenger have a fake wheel and scare the other drivers when the passengers asleep.... lol Ill have to ask about it when I order my next car...
Perhaps the owner had one in Japan (or the UK) and moved here, taking their car with them. Or maybe the Post Office is experimenting with a smaller mail vehicle. As an aside. I did see pictures of someone who added a tach to their Prius by buying the A/C vent cover that includes the Park button and the shift, but for the right hand drive. They mounted the tach in the hole where the shift lever would go.
I work in Pasadena and since it didn't have plates it could very well be a city vehicle. I have seen electric SMART cars used as well as other small hybrid cars with steering on the right. These were mainly parking enforcement vehicles (for chalking tires). Maybe that's it?
Rural route drivers have purchased right hand drive vehicles for years. Most of the rural route drivers out here have right hand drive Subaru wagons.
a friend of mine works for the city of pasadena, and knows that i have a prius. i think he would have told me if the city had a prius, let alone a modified one.
