    - Please report the status of your gen2 prius traction (high voltage) battery.

    - Please participate whether or not have had a failure.

    - Please only select the first option if you came to these forums specifically because of a problem that turned out to be HV battery related.

I've kept the options as simple as possible, so as to obtain only the most basic aggregate data of approximate percentage failures.

It would also be very useful if posters reporting a failure could also post a brief reply reporting the approximate age and mileage at the time of failure, along with (if possible) the geographical region where their Prius was mostly driven.

For example something like this: 2004 Prius. Battery failed in 2012 at 118k miles. Location: Southern Ca.

    Thanks for participating. :)

No failure yet on my '04 GEN-II traction battery. It is driven daily and has 115,000 miles on it. Bought it new just before the '05's came out.

Out of the hundreds and hundreds of visitors on PC each day, there should be more than the 25 people that have responded to this survey. Maybe there's a way to make this a pop up when people first go onto priuschat?

My experience with polls (on various forums) is most people don't like to bother to vote. Not sure if this is laziness or not.

2005 Prius. Battery failed at 153k.
"the geographical region where their Prius was mostly driven..."?
    - This would be a bit complicated as the car barely did an approx 1K distant trip to failure location which is, Nigeria. Documents however indicate previous locations as MD (2008-2012) & PA (2012/13). Hope that helps.... or Has it made the analysis more complicated? lol.

Interesting, so it's failed very soon after you buying it second hand in Nigeria. Or did you move to Nigeria and have the Prius shipped it out there with you?

There seem to be quite a lot of cases of people buying secondhand and having traction battery failures fairly soon afterwards. I wonder how many of these are due to the previous owner getting a battery problem and doing a quick and nasty fix before unloading it?

I believe we will see more and more of these cases where people buy a high mileage Prius and have the battery fail soon after purchase. This is the common practice where people get rid of their problems and buy something newer. The biggest problem we have with the Prius is that it has the reputation to be bulletproof and many people that don't know the cars and assume they are bulletproof. They buy them with 200k+ miles and assume they will be troublefree for another 200k, just like all the taxi's they read about. I see lots of ads on craigslist of broken Prius cars, only to be sold and reappear a few days later at a higher price.....after a band-aid repair.

After a car reaches 200k miles, any component can fail, not just the battery. This thinking seems to be known knowledge however people don't take this into consideration when they buy a Prius. That's what puzzles me.......

Yea, you're right. It failed shortly after buying it second hand in Nigeria.
