What the heck could it be? It gets a little louder on left hand curves of the road, but pretty much constant. Its not the tires, they are new as of a few months ago.
Its hard to tell, just sounds like the whole front is making that noise! Guess I gotta call the dealer.
Around 84,000 miles. Dealer cant see it till Monday, I need to keep driving it, just hope nothing worse happens!
My o6' had the bearings start to go at 40,000, I waited until 60,000 to replace them what a mistake, well worth the steps necessary to get them replaced.
Is the airplane noise dependent on vehicle speed or engine speed? When the car stops rolling, does it stop? I was originally thinking, exhaust leak (dependent on engine speed/load). Prop airplane or jet airplane? Or turboprop?
More like a jet airplane. Its not the exhaust. A little louder on left hand curves in the road. I have stopped driving it until I need to drive it to the dealer.
my prius 06 - began getting terrible milage, then the lights when on, and!!! started sounding like an airplane, from the right side rear battery vent. I have to replace my battery ... anyone hear of this before?
Your "airplane sound" was probably the HV cooling fan running at high speed. The OP's sound is likely from a different source. The talk about "airplane sounds" makes me think of a former neighbor with a set of 39.5" TSL Bogger tires on his pickup. When he came down the road, the lug-slap of those tires sounded just like a prop airplane. I don't think he liked it much--he swapped the tires out pretty quickly.
Thought I'd give an update We replaced both front bearings, what a job for the diy'er! But happy to say the car is finally quiet and performing nicely! I wouldn't recommend diy, but sure saved some money. Just a little over $200. to do it ourselves.
