Just traded my 2007 Touring Prius Pkg3 for a Gen III 2014 Pkg 4.

On my 07 it was very easy to see the avg MPG on a tank of gas, as well as your MPG as you were driving on the center screen. I am reading thru the manual now and looking at all the display windows, but I do not see that specific information coming up anywhere.
It must be there, I just can't find it yet. Any help?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Push the display button (on the steering wheel) to toggle through display modes, one of them is the trip meter. Then push the trip button (on steering wheel) to toggle the numbers along the bottom the display through the various options. One of them is trip A (or B), it shows your mpg since last reset. Press-and-hold of trip button while in this display will reset trip.

Note, the mpg display is likely optimistic. On our 2010 it averages about 8%.

I reset the trip meter at each fill up, but use it just as back up, and feedback on mpg. For calculating I rely on the odometer, since it can't be accidently reset. And just check against the trip meter reading.

Unlike your GenII, the GenIII does not specifically show average MPG for a tank. Instead, it has average MPG only for TripA and TripB. As Mendel describes above, you can manually reset one of them to create a tank average.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to miss the Display from my 2007....I already miss the Back-Up Screen which was larger and easier to see with Prescription Sunglasses that have polarization. Never thought to check that out beforehand and just assumed the camera would be the same. I Did my test driving towards evening when sunglasses were not needed :-(
Big difference overall in the feel of the vehicle. The 07 did not feel as luxurious in the cabin. I really did not like that they cheaped out on storage in the 14, No shelf in glovebox, or separate manual holder area in lower box, and especially the smaller center console box without a shelf, that is placed back too far. You need to be a contortionist to plug in your USB etc. In the 07 you could look down at where you were plugging in without having to slide the seat all the way back.
Little things make a difference sometimes.....

and there is no longer a current (almost instant) digital readout, just a lined analog meter. the gen II had a lot of great features that got lost, unfortunately.

I downloaded Engine Link for my IPhone and have the wireless OBDII adaptor on order. According to an email question to the developer it will let you change the reverse to a single beep and disable the seatbelt beep. It supposedly also monitors many engine functions, displays codes, resets the check engine light and lets your phone act as a HUD when placed on the dash. I'm sure it's not quite as robust as scanguage but for 5 bucks it may be fine for me.

I just bought my first Prius and I'm finding that Toyota uses some odd terms and abbreviations. In this case I looked at "Cons. xx mpg" for a while before I figure out that that's average fuel CONSumption (this was on the way home from the dealer, yes I eventually looked it all up). It would make more sense to me if it said "Avg. xx mpg"

Thanks for that info. I too just bought a Prius. I'm still trying to figure out what the vent button with what appears to be "railroad tracks" going vertically through 2 horizontal arrows means. Not a very intuitive car is it. If it's max air it should just say it but I still don't know for sure. Wait till you try to figure out the HU display and the one near the speedometer. Probably took me a month to figure out I could change them. Word to the wise. Drive it like a regular car. You only going to stress yourself out with the "information overload".

it might be short term filtration.

What is that? Don't I want full time cabin filtration?

Apparently not. They figured you'd wear out the filter.

Odd though as that would have been a $$ maker :)

Thanks. I did not know such a feature existed. I'll use that when I'm following my sisters husband. He just bought a Passat diesel last week.

All incoming air is filtered all the time. Normally you have the choice of outside air or recirculated but the recirculated is not 100%, some 10% of outside air is bleed in to reduce moisture build up.

The mentioned button is called a 'pollen removal mode" on the UK model. It shuts off the air bleed giving 100% recirculating through the filter and ramps up the fan spead and directs the air to your face. It only runs for about 3 minutes and the reverts back to whatever settings you had before selection.

Ideal, as you say, when following stinky lorries and stuck in idling traffic.

The Toyota salesman I had didn't even know what that button did... I thought it looked like air filtration but that didn't really make sense to me. The explanations above are clearer than what's in the manual, thanks.

I was surprised at how little the salespeople seemed to know about the Prius in general. I pushed the button for kicks and it did exactly as Lanlanlan said. Sped up the fan for a couple of minutes then reverted back.
