The past few days ive had the switch in the on position but when I exit the car and come back hours later after it's been in full sun the fan isn't on and the cabin isn't lower in temp. Occasionally when I shut off the car I hear a short beep and I assume that means the system is active and later I find it is, but that is with the moon roof open. Is it normal for the fan to not turn on unless the roof is open?
The beep is likely telling you the roof is open - mine beeps when I turn it off with the roof open. The solar ventilation should run with the roof closed. When you say open do you mean just tilted open or slid all the way back? I'd imagine if that was the case that it was blocking the solar panel so that would explain why the fan wasn't working. Otherwise as long as the switch is 'on' (pressed in) when you turn the car off the solar panel should run the fan if there's sufficient sunlight.
The fan will work whether the roof is tilted open or not. The beep is telling you the roof is open. I haven't tested what effect sliding the roof back has, but it will certainly at least partially block the solar panel.
