My 2006 Prius with 107000 miles has lots of warning lights came on 2 days ago, including red triangle, vsc, check engine light, yellow brake light... Please see attached picture. I can still drive it so I took it to a hybrid auto shop today, since I can't get an appointment with any toyota dealers until next week. I noticed just now that the vent at the right passenger seat is running and making noise, which I never had heard before. I'm currently sitting at the body shop waiting for them to scan the codes, but any suggestions/insights would help. Thank you!! I also checked the service history on toyota.com, and look like the previous owner changed the 12v battery in jan 2013.
The service history says the previous owner changed the 12 volt battery in jan 2013 so I assumed it's about a year and half old. And I'll post the codes as soon as the mechanics have them for me. Thanks!!
so they are still working on my car but basically they told me a need a new hybrid battery. They haven't shown me the codes yet. If I understand correctly, I'm still under warranty of 10 years/100000 miles since I'm in CA. Yes?
I suspect the previous owner had those codes come up before (hence the 12v battery change before turning it in likely just before the traction battery warranty was up.......I saw the same thing with my car's history too but I had a feeling it needed a traction battery and negotiated accordingly). The noise in the vents is the hybrid battery fan that comes on full bore when it throws the codes you saw. Here's your codes: P0A80 Replace Hybrid Battery Pack P3021 Battery Block 11 becomes weak So basically you'll need to either replace the pack or rebuild it yourself as seen here. Gen II Prius Individual Battery Module Replacement | PriusChat If it´s under warranty obviously you'll want to go that route first (it´s 100k OR 10 yrs so you're likely over)
So I took my car to a toyota dealer, without even making an appointment , and they confirmed me that I will have a new hybrid battery, for free Sweet! Though they said there's water leak at the engine so they need to change that, together with the belt and coolant. They also strongly recommend to have the battery vent cleaned, which will cost $150. So I consider myself really lucky that my warranty hasn't expired yet. I wish I didn't go to the other auto shop yesterday and wasted $125 though. Oh well. Thank you everyone!!
