I've seen in a couple of topics that people were going to be trying it, and i wanted to know if it worked? in otherwords, are there any changes between '05 and '06 that makes it not work? I'd really like to order one, but want to make sure it's going to work first.
Eagle, I have contacted Eugene at Vaistech several times in the past few months. He says the AIC-100i will work for all the functions on your steering wheel but not be able to see the current song info or folders on your MFD. He says the SLI is still in the works, you can get the 100i and upgrade when the SLI is ready. Not sure what upgrade really means. In the meantime, I'm going with the AXXESS unit to do the same job as the 100i. You can find it online for around $199 but I got mine for $27 on ebay. I will have it installed this weekend along with my new Infinity Basslink sub. olcorral.
Axxess = wire-tunes. Check out https://wire-tunes.com/ Anyways, it has been tried many times by people on this forum eg. http://priuschat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10507&start=0 It doesn't work. So save yourself the trouble and time. Dension's ice>link claims to support Prius 06 with text display etc. It's no listed on their website, but the box on my local bestbuy clears states that. Anyone tried it on a 06?
Well, I've had a VAIS SLI unit for over a month, but I just tried to install it today. I believe I have it plugged in correctly (it seems to make the correct beeps during configuration) but I have not been able to get the NAV unit to recognize it. It's as if it isn't there. I have changed the emulation to try both MD and CD modes, and it still isn't recognized. I never see the VAIS logo on the ipod, and changing the mode of the audio doesn't present the CD2 or MD display. There seems to be information here that indicates the 2006 Prius radio is different, and that VAIS has (or will) develop a compatible interface (called LSI?), though with possibly limited capabilities. Since VAIS assured me in several emails that the SLI would work in the 2006 Prius, I'm going to contact them and see what they have to say.
There have been reports of the Vais working on the 2006 Prius. There was just no text on the screen. I hope they are able to figure this out. It could be a bad cable.
