Just wondering just how many gallons of gas the Prius v is suppose to hold.

On this tank of gas, it says I have driven 540 miles with 14 miles left in the range.

Down to one notch on the gas thing, and it is still not blinking yet.

I went to fill up with gas and I did top off more than usual, but I did stop at 12.7 gallons. IMG_1307.jpg

Toyota claims 11.9 gallons In 111 fill-ups, I only have one over 11 gallons: 13.1 last December. It never blinks, when miles to empty gets to about 10, an orange gas pump illuminates.

Yeah, I think I put in 12.9 once and I hadn't run out. I tend to go more conservative now. Then there is some talk about a bladder that might be relevant but you'd have to get someone else to explain it.

Bladders were a Gen II thing. Not on a Prius after 2009 model year.

I have to say that if your pump is telling you it put 12.7 gal in there, its lying. That or you just filled the entire evap system with gas. Once when I had a pump that didn't shut off on its own and ran over from the filler neck, it still didn't take more than about 1/4 gal over what it usually takes (including the cup on the ground).

Mine blinks. I would prefer that the orange gas pump would glow!

You do not have a Prius v station wagon (this forum is for the v) you have a liftback.

I've barely ever put more than ten gallons in my V. That was about 25 miles after the orange light went on.

Doesn't the gas in the bottom of the tank help cool the fuel pump??? My thoughts are to never let mine get below 1/4 tank. Then again, ever since Katrina and the severe gas shortage-- I never hardly ever let mine get below 1/2 tank.

I think you will find that on the v, 'empty' as shown on the gauge IS 1/4 tank.

My manual say 11.9 on the 2015 model.. and the Toyota mechanic strong urge to not over fill, bad for the car.

Well i see pretty good mpg on your v. I have 2014 v 5 and getting about 31mpg, yellow light lit up at 345 miles range left 17 miles. I drove her to come 0 mile range left and then filled her. Auto shut off on 10.4 gallons. I tried to refill slowly and i was able to fill 13.5 gallon. I looked inside the tank i it was not still end to the gas cap. I think i could fill more half gallon but i stoped at 13.5 but when range is showing 0 is not meaning your tank is out of gas, you still have over a gallon in tank. So bottom line i believe it can hold 15 gallon to full fill to gas cap.

Running a tank to true empty can burn out a fuel pump.

I ran mine down to where it said I only had 9 miles to go. When I filled up it only took 9.7 gallons. Last week in Western Kansas I had 3 bars and stopped for fuel it took 10.4 gallons! I questioned the honesty of the pump, he said the state proofs it.

I put in 13.54 gallons in my 2012 Prius v today. I drove on zero for 15 miles and was sweating it. I filled it up to the point just before the gas started overflowing.
